So, you won't be impressed if the Bengals beat Houston?

I'd say that since the Bengals have won only 5 playoff games since the inception of the team 43 years ago, this team getting #6 would be pretty impressive. I don't care who it's against.

Wins at Tenn and at Seattle are definitely quality wins and they could have easily won both or one of the Balt games if they caught even one break. They had Houston beat but completely choked it. I think they are rated right where they should be actually. A 8-10 win team with a lot of young players and a promising future. Also the Niners beat them when they had their worst offensive game of the year and still only lost 13-8. The only really bad game they have had is the Steelers a couple weeks ago.

 

I completely agree. People can say that the Bengals backed in all they want, but the season has been a success with going 9-7 alone with or without making the playoffs. I also feel that a few of their wins are more quality than some are crediting them for.

I love it that they're in the playoffs and I think they will win next week. It doesn't mean I have to think Dalton has a strong arm though right?

 

Well considering basically everything you say about the Bengals is negative, so makes it seem like you are not happy. Makes it seem like you are more happy to get to say you were right on things, when things don't go well. Or like you want to make an excuse for why things did go well. They are a playoff team and that is all that matters. Once your in the playoffs anything is possible, it does not matter what happened in the regular season.

Schedule got tougher. Weather got colder. Arm isn't quite big enough.

 

If scouts during the draft never said he didn't have a strong arm, would you even think his arm is not strong by what you see? Yes he does not have a rocket arm, and no one is saying he has a big arm. However he doesn't have a weak arm, Chad Pennington had a weak arm. I seen many games from Pennington, and Dalton's arm definitely is stronger than his. I mean those scouts that you based your opinion on have even backed off that weak arm stuff. I remember even reading about how a few scouts have even said that his arm was stronger than what they thought after seeing him play a few games in the NFL. You made your opinion on him before you even seen him, and it's like you refuse to change that no matter what you see. The best thing is his arm will look even better with more NFL experience, because he will read defenses even better. Get rid of the ball quicker, which would hit people when they are coming out of their routes quicker. Drew Brees does not have the strongest arm, and honestly that probably who Dalton is closest too in arm strength IMO. However Brees is great at anticipating throws, and hitting guys in stride. However it took him 3 years before he started to get that down.

 

Trust me I was all ready to hate on the next Bengals QB after all the Palmer stuff that I dealt with haha. However there is not much I can complain about, especially since he is a rookie. I think he is going to be really good, and I can live with the mistakes he makes this year because I know he is only a rookie. His main flaw was he didn't have a rocket arm, and he already has scouts changing their mind and saying it is not as weak as they thought. So stop holding a predraft evaluation against him. I wonder how many flaws people saw in Tom Brady before he came out, probably a lot since he fell to the 6th round. Yet probably everyone of those flaws they said ended up being wrong, or he just overcame them.

Book after book you write so I can't read your entire posts but here goes: No, it has nothing to do with it. I saw him make two throws to the sidelines Sunday that weren't close to strong enough. I've seen him make many throws downfield that aren't nearly strong enough. Some of them Green bails him out which is fine, but to anyone else it isn't a good throw. He has gone over 200 yards once in 5 games in a clear passing league while the offense isn't rushing for over 200 yards a game and I's supposed to not have an opinion?

It is factual and in no way negative to say they got extremely lucky with their schedule and even more lucky that they faced backups and third string QB's on an already soft schedule. If that is negative to you or other kool-aid drinkers like Habib so be it. I've complemented them when I felt it was warranted. I've said Brown has done good things when I thought he has, and I hate him with a passion. Just because they've shown improvement and are seemingly headed in the right direction doesn't mean Marvin is all of a sudden a great game coach, Dalton is an All Pro and Gruden is the next best offensive mind.

Win or lose this Saturday, this season is a success. Kudos to you for keeping the faith.

 

Bingo! I couldn't agree more with you. Bengals are young, young, young. Young players have inconsistent performances. That's true at all levels of sports. Dalton has had some great games; some okay games; and some not very good games. Anyone that expected differently was kidding themselves. Schedule will be tougher next year, but Dalton and the other young players should be much better to hopefully offset that. Hopefully the Bengals will use the draft to get a top notch corner, a top notch O lineman, and a lber with speed, who can all contribute next year. If so, I think the Bengals can win their division. They are a decent team this year; with the addition of a few players to strenghten those spots and I think they will be a very good team next year.

A lot of those throws that you say he underthrew Green, were not times where it was like Green was running past the defender. Most of those throws Green was even with the defender and he just put it up there for Green to go get. The times Green has been past the defender he has done a good job of hitting him. Yes he did miss a few throws the other day, but guess what he is still a rookie. A rookie is going to miss throws, a rookie is not going to be right on the money. If he is still missing those throws three years down the road, then you will have a point. However until then it is silly to complain about stuff like that.

These other teams in the league also have had breaks when it comes to playing bad teams. Shoot in the AFC West only one team had their starting QB who started the year in Rivers. In the AFC East they had only Tom Brady who was a good QB, then a backup at Miami and a bad QB in Fitz as you say. In the AFC South they all had QB problems too. So every team in the AFC faced teams with QB problems basically this year. When it comes to the Jets they played the NFC East who only had one team with a winning record at 9 and 7. They didn't even beat one winning team this year, which if they beat just one winning team like the Bengals did then they are in the playoffs. So I can give facts just as easily as you, facts that also go against your reasoning for why they are not a good team in your opinion. So yes the Bengals did have some breaks, but so did other teams. The difference is other teams were not able to take advantage of it. Which guess what a sign of a good team is being able to take advantage of those things. Hey you complaing about something else, thats not surprising. You act like since I cheer for the Bengals, that I agree with everything Mike Brown does. I know Mike Brown has made more horrible decisions than good since he has been owner. However since I won't put him down for when actually does do a few things right, doesn't mean I have forgotten about the past. You act like since I cheer for the Bengals that I don't see flaws in the team. Like how the runninggame has been pretty bad, or how when the Bengals don't get pressure on the QB, their pass defense struggles. Or the fact that Andy Dalton does miss some throws, even though I do realize he is a rookie and it will happen. You act like that I don't see that Marvin has been a horrible game manager during his team here, even though he has done better this year than in the past. Even though he still had some bad decisions on things. Trust me I know they are not perfect, but guess what no team is. Every team has plenty of flaws, including the good teams. Including the defending Super Bowl Champions who only lost one game. Every team has flaws, and just because people cheer for those teams, it doesn't mean we don't see those flaws.

 

I have seen many bad Bengal teams in my lifetime, actually mostly bad Bengal teams in my lifetime. So when I actually see a good team, like I saw before this year I am going to cheer for them. Rather than dwell on the flaws like you seem to do. I have seen teams since I been alive catch lucky breaks and have easier schedules, guys dropping balls, fumbles, etc that has helped teams win games. What I didn't see during all those years were breaks falling the Bengals ways. Good teams get breaks to fall their ways all the time, and well the Bengals are actually starting to get some of them. New England's first Super Bowl run came on a lucky break on a bad rule with that tuck rule. Steelers 2005 team probably got a lucky break with Palmer tearing his knee up. Teams get lucky breaks sometime, and it's silly to dwell on them. All good teams need breaks to go their ways sometimes. There is no kool-aid drinking. When I see a good team I am going to say that, when I see things that could go their way I am going to say that. I have no reason to talk only about their flaws when they are doing good. I do that enough during all their bad seasons. I have no reason to act more like I am happy when the Bengals lose like you seem to do, because you feel like it helps you out. So yes I know they have flaws, and I also know they are the youngest team in the AFC so its going to happen. I am going to enjoy rooting for the Bengals, as you enjoy looking only at their flaws and my long post. Good day Sir. :thumb:
