Sure he has, just like every GM, and I think this is one of those moments by Walt. I hope I'm wrong, but I feel real strongly about Wood becoming a very good pitcher. One thing is for sure. Two or three years down the road I'll either be able to tell a lot of you "Told you so", or a lot of people will be able to tell me the same. :lol:

Here are some recent pitchers they see Wood being comparable to - Paul Maholm, Charlie Liebrandt, Trevor Wilson, Ricky Romero, Mark Guthrie, Atlee Hammaker, Joe Price.

Romero is probably who you would want to hang your hat on to back your "you will regret this" argument. The rest oif this list doesn't help you much as it pretty much puts Wood at a #4 or 5 at best.

Love the go for it now mentality they are displaying. It is pretty obvious there is a 2 year window for this franchise to make a big push and they are ready to make the moves necessary to take advantage. As long as they don't totally gut the farm system (which they are not even close to doing at this point) you win now and worry about the future down the road...

Thanks VOR. I go to that site often. That is based on how many starts by Wood? Let's see how much that changes in a couple of years.

I think he solidifies a HUGE need for this team. A shut down guy in the setup role. That's huge. They no longer have to rely on bi-polar Masset to get a lead to the closer.

They've pretty much already said Hamilton, Meso, and Corcino are off-limits. They've still got them, Phipps, Soto, Rodriquez, etc. on the farm so as you said it's not like the cupboard is bare down there.

And obviously I think Wood should have been much higher than that. I'm very happy to have Marshall on the team, just really sad that Wood is gone.

On the fence on this one. Not a big fan of trading within the division.

 

It seems like a lot to give up for a one year rental.

 

I do think Woods will end up being better than a #5 starter.

If the Reds won back to back world series titles, I could care less if they win 30 games for the next 3 seasons after that. That scenario would be better than constantly winning 80 games every year and barely missing the playoffs. Now is the time to win.

The Cubs will receive Wood, Dave Sappelt, and Ronald Torreyes from the Reds for Marshall, reports ESPN's Keith Law. The trade will be announced later today.
