If Howard goes to NJ like he is asking for, I could see the Paul trade being allowed to happen. Is there something criminal here, seems like their may be?

Really, I think this trade would be best for all parties involved. Hornets lose CP3 next year regardless and will get NOTHING in return for him. Let them make the trade now and add three good players. Stern is screwing NO over more than anybody in this.

 

Maybe on purpose. Only thing that makes sense is he will contract them at the end of the year.

I will say this, I don't expect New Orleans to get a better deal than that. I understand the thinking behind the vetoed trade, but it was obviously a bad move.

 

No way they could have done better than this. CP can't be traded now unless they reverse this decision. There is no way the NBA can approve him being moved anywhere legally now I wouldn't think. Crazy stuff

The Rockets probably got the worst hosing by Stern after CP. This was a great deal for them.

I heard someone mention that the commissioner basically just "contracted the Hornets".

 

To my mind, that's absolutely a part of what happened; part of a larger plan to enforce in practice what the owners failed to achieve via the new CBA.

I won't link to it because the article has some harsh language (and I don't want to end up on the wrong side of the rules here) but Bill Simmons hit the nail on the head this morning with his column on this. He's calling yesterday "The Day Stern Lost Control," in reference to a group of small-market owners pushing for this thing to be blocked. I'm not always a huge fan of Simmons, but the article is right on the money.

 

What a group of owners saw was a bargaining process that was supposed to help competitive balance then right after it ends, they see one of the game's best players immediately traded to one of the league's richest teams. So the owners did what they always do... they pouted. And really put a hurt on all the machinations of the GMs of the Lakers, Rockets and Hornets.

So just so we are clear Stern thinks its better for the Hornets to have Paul for this year and see him walk. Or they could have Odom, Scola, and Martin who is pretty darn good.

 

Stern is corrrupt....I almost hope the NBA never recovers from the lockout. This is the single most bush thing I've ever seen done in professional sports.

 

Well I am glad people probably see what I was talking about when I was wondering why so many people thought Stern was the best commish in sports. Two lockouts in the last 12 years which caused the NBA to miss games, a gambling scandal with refs fixing games, and now Stern blocking a trade because other owners don't like it. Even though it will just basically kill the Hornets because if they don't get to trade him he will just leave on his own.

 

I hate the Lakers and hated hearing how they would get Chris Paul, and who knows possibly Howard. However it would have made me more interested in the NBA seeing a bunch of star teams assembled playing each other. This was just wrong for him to do that.

Simmons pretty much killed it.

Hollinger's take is that CP for Gasol straight up is a fair trade. The idiot owners that blocked this basically guaranteed Howard going to the Lakers now and he wouldn't have been able to with that trade. Howard will help Kobe and the Lakers much more than CP would have.
