Because of the caliber of the opponent. On the road or in Alaska, you tell me that Oklahoma State should have lost to Iowa State. LSU and Alabama was a 1 v 2 matchup and a pickem. Oklahoma State was a 27 point favorite. If that's not glaring, then I don't know what is.

^You can't say "look at the opponent" and "Oklahoma State was a 27 point favorite", and not take into consideration the outside circumstances that surrounded that game. You just can't choose to ignore some factors and take into consideration others.

 

I'd encourage you to take a look at my thoughts in Post #66 on that matter. Leading 24-7 five minutes into the second half, that is not shock. That is not a hangover. It is an excuse, albeit not one I think OK State is putting out there.

I really understand the potential emotional distress the team could have been under. But that is not fair to give them extra credit for it. You can only judge based upon what occurred. And let us not pretend OSU was just disinterested. They were up 24-7 and blew a big lead.

The next year Norte Dame is 9-0-1 they tied Michigan State 9-0-1. Bama finished 3rd 11-0 with a huge win over the CornHuskers in the Bowl game. What goes around...

 

At that time ND didn't play in Bowl Games, Michigan State had gone to the Rose Bowl in 65 and couldn't go in 66.

 

Well aware of that one too. Or the '64 title when the Tide lost to Texas in the Orange Bowl.

 

Or the '78 title shared with a USC team that defeated the Crimson Tide earlier in the year.

Like I said, they come out and get curb stomped from the word go and have to come back to make it a game, that I'd buy. That they got complacent against a lesser opponent when they got up by 17, that I'd buy. That they started out just fine, came out from halftime just fine, and then lost their grip because of the tragedy, no, I can't be sold that line.

 

The bottom line is that the BCS is charged with placing the two best teams in the game. If people believe Alabama is the second best team (and I believe that most do), then the BCS got it right.

Actually Dragonfire, it doesn't work that way with psychosis and trauma. I'm not here to argue for or against the Cowboys. I'm merely pointing out that the very nature of the campus was transformed.

 

Now I don't believe it's the same thing but I have a little empathy for mass trauma since I live 90 minutes from Virginia Tech and went through the impact of that event on the entire region.

There's so many ways to look at this, but I honestly don't think Alabama was truly more deserving like most of you do. Who knows if the tragedy weighed in on the loss for OK St? We don't know. Who's to say that if that happened to Alabama, they would've have went into Iowa State and blown a lead? Who's to say that OK St wouldn't have beaten LAY if they played at home? To be honest, that is nothing but opinions. What I look at is the top 25 wins between the two and quality of wins, which in all honesty, goes to OK St because they beat quite a few more top teams than Bama did. The Big 12 and the SEC arethe two best conferences in the land, its not like they played in a weak conference. You can talk about the SECs D, but then you have to talk about the Big 12s offense. Bama's loss was a wayyy better loss, but OK St loss did come after a huge tragedy on the road. The more I think about it, the more i truly believe that OK St deserved the chance. I am falling victim to the Bama had there chance talk, and I am an SEC homer. I really hope that made sense because I am kind of out of it right now. If it doesn't sound legit, please don't bash me too bad lol.

I want OSU but understand why Bama gets the nod. Deservingly so. Had Bama been left out there would be as equal of an outcry. Really the team who got screwed was LSU. They played by far the nation's toughest schedule with really only 1 close game yet were able to survive unscathed. They should let OSU and Bama play to decide who is #2 and go on and throw a parade for the Tigers for being #1.

I stand corrected. I misread an article today. Like I said in my post earlier, running on low fuel earlier today and figured I would mess something up. BUT...you cannot say they would've beaten OSI because they've never played. It isn't that they would've, its you think they would've. Nobody can say they would've beaten OK St, because THEY HAVEN'T PLAYED! That's not a good reason for keeping a team out. In that case, I guess you know Bama is going to lose, because it already happened? In my opinion, OK St should've played LSU, because that proves completely that LSU is the best team in the country. I am just not a fan of the rematch or a team that didn't win their division, nevertheless conference, even if I do believe Bama is the second best team. I just feel the closest way to crown a true champion this year was to put them against the Cowboys, because then, atleast in the way that I feel, there isn't a doubt who's the best team in the nation. Does it matter whether Alabama "had their shot"? If the end game of the system is to pit the two best teams against each other at the end of the season, then somebody already "getting their shot" is irrelevant.
