I'm not from Boyle County, but I will give my opinion. Based on those statistics, it makes a good argument that Bowling Green is or may be better than Highlands, but without them playing, there's really no way to say which of the two is best.

 

There sure isn't. Without them playing this year there is no way to tell who is better. Yet, I'll still have to defend BG for the duration of this thread. Going to rest up now for the long haul.

This is a painful reminder of the ole' days before the realignment & all the comments about how much lesser of a team BG is. My focus is on Anderson County & winning a state championship. Someone asked the question if BG should be #2 in the state & my post was to relay what CalPreps rankings were. (fwiw)

 

What I remember about Anderson Co. is how the hit the mentally retarded player on Highlands after they were getting pummled by Highlands (understatement).

Perception, bigger school and it's still an arguement? Highlands has a lower enrollment (and that is how the classification system deciedes), but WHO ON THIS BOARD WOULD THINK BOWLING GREEN WOULD BEAT HIGHLANDS THIS YEAR???.

I really thought it would be a 1 score game either way. I was shocked they handled WCentral like they did the week before, as well. I would probably have BGreen ranked 2nd right now or at the very least a tie for #2. They've been very impressive and have done it against very solid competition. Highlands has too though.

 

So based off this post and the above a lot of people expected a close game but BG delivered a lopsided victory, does that over shadow the fact that Highlands has been heavily favored and won big almost every game?

I'm not big on making predictions, but having watched BG on tape, I strongly believe Highlands would beat BG.

 

BG is another very good but very typical west Ky football team. It's amazing to me how much this year's west Ky representative looks like the prior year's representative, which looks like the prior year's representative. That means fast quick players at the so called "skilled" positions, but poor line play. Big guys, but overweight and slow. BG's O line is just too slow. It wouldn't be quite like the blow out of Christian County last year, where because of the very slow line, Tandy and Hickey did absolutely nothing against Highlands D, but you'd see a similar theme in a Highlands-BG match up this year. CovCath has a much better big line than BG and Highlands dominated it a couple of weeks ago. Smaller, athletic O lines like LexCath and Boyle actually give Highlands D more problems than the big O lines.

 

Defensively, BG likes put a lot in the box and bring pressure. I'm sure they'd give Highlands O some problems but Highlands just has too many ways to score and thus can exploit the weakness presented when BG takes the gambles it does.

 

Coaching-wise, I'm giving a big nod to the Highlands guys, particularly in a state game. Yeah, yeah, yeah. I know BG beat Highlands in 95 with Dale as Highlands' head coach. It was his second year at Highlands and implementing his program and systems was still a very early work in progress. The 07 state games shows the development of the program and the head coach since 95.

 

Just my opinion folks. Don't get your school girl panties in a bunch if you think BG would win and thus disagree with me.

 

Sad this game didn't happen. Heck, I'd like another shot at Trinity this year; not because I think we'd beat them. Just like to see if the end of the year performance would be better than the beginning of the year performance.

 

I'll be at the 5A state game. Maybe I'll see things that make me rethink my analysis. But based on what I've seen of BG this year, I'd go with Highlands.

5A. The class that wipes its brow and says phew! Don't have to woory about T or X. Don't have to worry about Highlands. Keep in mind Highlands was undefeated in 5 A. For 4 years. I guess I'm weighing in on the side of the Birds on this one...

No, just means that people felt JHardin was an outstanding team, moreso than the teams Highlands have been playing. JH actually hammered Boyle and Lex Cath worse than Highlands did.

Funny how theres always justification for Highlands but noone else gets the same. "Coach was in his 2nd year", justifying BGs win in 95, "faster lines give them more trouble", justifying why other teams handled them easier, always using past teams success to somehow make a pount about this year. It gets really old. I think either team could make that #2 claim and have plenty of reasons to feel that way. Personally, it's hard for me to believe you've actually watched BG play because there line is not slow by any means. They have a big RT whos a little slow, but, the rest of there line is quick off the ball and from what I've seen, there skill position players are most likely a step or 2 quicker than Highlands skill players.

It's the condescending tone of you Highlands posters that makes it impossible to have a good and logical discussion. Not that it matters. They can't play this year so we'll never know. Just my opinion, BG by 7 over Highlands.
