This was without a doubt the worst fan behavior I have ever witnessed by a winning team. If I hadn't heard them myself, I wouldn't have believed it. Adults saying some terrible things to kids. Why was it necessary? The game was over. I totally disagree with blaming the coach for the personal foul situation. I do question why a coach with that big of a lead and a state final at stake would leave his starters in and risk someone getting hurt or ejected for as long as he did. The game is over. HC advances. HC fans are really bad. Enough said.

I think grouping all fans with a small group of misbehaving people is not right. Most Holy Cross fans that I know are good people who respect other teams and are excited to be in the finals for the first time. As you can pick up just from reading posts on here there were many people there just watching the game and maybe cheering for HC because they are local, but not "Holy Cross fans" per se. Maybe it was them, maybe it was random people who knows but stereotyping an entire fan base that you obviously don't know in inappropriate. It would be like saying all people from Somerset commit personal fouls or try to take out players from other teams. Once again a few do not represent the whole.

Fans, refs, scoreboard, and other parts of the side show... they seem to get in the way of game discussion much too often.

Question for Somerset fans, who was the big right tackle that came in late in the fourth quarter? He looked every bit of 6'6 320 and what grade is he?

Sr. has been nursing a knee injury all year, just started getting some spot playing time in the last few weeks.

I had a good trip as far as how we were treated. I'm not disputing what anyone else has said but we were treated well, and I saw no disrespect from the fans either way from where I was sitting. Just a great atmosphere for a HS football game.

 

This time of year there is so much emotion. Either way it goes you have a bunch of kids that will never play football again and parents that will never see their kids play again... it is a very emotionally charged atmosphere. That in some cases does not foster good behavior from either side. Fans need win with class and lose with class....but unfortunately emotions take over sometimes instead of good judgement.

 

As far as the chippiness on the field goes, coaches do need to reign it in when they see it. But the players, especially team leaders need to lead and get their teammates under control as well.

BTW HC QB was VERY impressive last night, made good reads and was uncanningly accurate last night.

HC...Holy Cross. We can read down here in Trailer City as we were called by some HC fans. This was adults yelling at the players on their way out. Wonder how many of them have ancestors from south Kentucky. I know I said I was done before, I am now. Just wanted to clarify that we can read...trailer trash and all.

There was not a single person drinking. "From an open bottle". There was police everywhere. And the arguing between the 2 sets of fans went both ways.

 

Those were not actual Holy Cross fans behind Somerset. They were there just because it was a game. They were asked to leave by a Holy Cross fan and assured him they would not root for HC again. Thats ok we do not need that type of support.

After the first half admin for the game had to ask plenty of Somerset fans to leave the sidelines for the same reasons. They were the reason the cops were in that corner to begin with. Bottom line, I agree 100%, adults need to act like adults.

 

Dulder, there most certainly were fans behind the fence on the basketball courts directly behind the bench drinking and taunting the players until they were forced to leave by the police. fmkj was on the sidelines with me and saw and heard them as well like he said in his post. Whether they were true HC fans or not is immaterial. They were only yelling at the Somerset kids. It is an emotional enough situation when your season or career is ending. That did nothing but inflame the situation. Again, I don't condone the personal fouls but that behavior was equally unacceptable and didn't help the situation. Our coach did take out several defensive starters and even inserted a senior offensive captain on defense to try and calm down the younger players that were losing their cool.

I know he did everything he could to cut it out.

I can confirm their were people there taunting, I did not go over by them to the point that I can confirm they were drinking or not. They were not HC fans and were asked to show some class by a HC fan. At which point they told him that they wont root for HC again. Oh well we dont need them anyway.
