The question was, what advantage does Highlands have that any other school can't develop over time?

 

When they can attract students from a large populace (even outside the city through tuition), it's an advantage that Logan County will NEVER enjoy. Ever.

That would be 14 students per grade level 1-12. I have no idea how many are on the football team but if it were 7 per class that would help a great deal.

California has an open class in football. They take the top teams and they have to play for the open championship. IF Kentucky had done that this year what would the top 8 teams have been. Trinity would have been 1 seed. Who would have been 2-8

This is true for a private school like Trinity, but doesn't apply to Highlands. Ft. Thomas has a population of about 17,000. This population (plus the tuition students) produce 419 boys in the high school. The only way your argument makes sense for Highlands is if the tuition students have an inordinate impact on the football team. My guess is they don't, but like I said before, I'd be curious to see the facts.

Are you saying that no child that lives outside the city limits of Fort Thomas attends Highlands?

 

No one has ever said every child that goes to Ft. Thomas Schools live in city limits. Never been said, and definitely not true. The school district is very open about the tuition students and the numbers that come to our schools. Looking at the school board minutes from September 2011, out of 2,740 students in the district, 193 pay some form of tuition. 2 levels of tuition: 1) if your home district releases the state ADA funds ($2,100) or 2) if your home district does not ($4,600). No scholarships are offered. You pay one of the two amounts, with one exception, children of employees receive a half-tuition discount. Out of those 193 tuition students, 79 attend the high school (51 with ADA funds and 28 pay full tuition amount). Not all of those 79 students play football. Less than 10% of Highlands student population (818) pays tuition.

 

With that said, if I look at the roster posted on the KHSAA website which includes the freshmen that are currently dressing, out of 120 football players, I believe less than 15 live out of district.

I don't know how the exact numbers work out. My calculations assume an even statistical spread of the numbers. What is your rationale for their being (in your scenario) all 40 tuition paying boys playing only varsity? That just doesn't work.

No rational for any of my numbers, just asking. I would think there would be a little higher % for football just because it is so good.

The kids and coaches put ALOT OF EFFORT into playing football,(from lifting weightsall winter and spring pracrice to giving up their summer break) so what does it hurt to allowing them to play one more game in the playoffs? If you dont like the blowouts dont go to the game or read the scores in the paper or on BGP. All other sports allow everyone play in the post season. Most allow teams to advance even after they have beean beaten in the post seson (district runner up advances.

 

Someone said use a system like the BCS, well then someone would complain then. Lets just use a system like then had before the BCS, allow the AP to vote for the state champion and we will not have to play any games, just play them all on paper!!!

Where is the uproar in that. As far as Highlands is concerned, I can name at least 15 tuition paying students who are girls that don't play any sports. It is a much cheaper education than private school and a great education. Highlands has something like a 96% attendance rate and over 90% of graduates attend college.

What is their % of free and reduced lunch? If you do go to all in playoffs the regular season would have to be cut to 9 games probably because it would add at least 1 more week of playoffs.
