Recognition as the "Best HS Football Player in the State" should be based on more than total yards. That criteria will produce a list of exclusively RBs and spread offense QBs everytime.

I have not had the opportunity this year to watch any on the list.

 

I did see Towles play in the title game last season and he played like a man among boys. UK would have been fortunate to have him even glance their way let alone sign up for four years of future frustration.

 

If I was voting, Mr. Jude would get my vote. There is something to be said about having your name in the books as the all-time rushing leader.

 

That thinking is certainly understandable and logical.

 

Depending on how the rest of the playoffs turnout could have a major impact on the votes. If JJ leads JC over Highlands this Friday, it would up his stock and lower Towles. If Towles leads Highlands over JC and to win state, with the type of production he has had this year, then I think his stock shoots way up.

 

If Wales is able to pass Jude and Central wins state, his stock goes way up.

 

Hightchew isn't going to pass either Wales or Jude, but if NCC wins state and he has a huge game, he also has a legit shot particularly if Towles/Highlands and Wales/Central falter.

 

Nothing brilliant in the foregoing and it's made with the assumption that Mr. Football isn't voted upon until after the state championships. Is that correct? I apologize if that issue has already been asked and answered.

Micah Johnson won it in 2005 and never went to the championship.

 

that's fine, but in the brightest light many things tend to get exposed, fair or not. He had a bad state championship game. Was it completely his fault? No, his line didn't block at all. However, Towles has a higher ceiling, is a better QB, and performed better when the lights were on.

Who is it at this point? Who do you think and why? Please provide some stats or logical argument.

I guess the real question is if JC pulls off the upset tonight and JJ plays well would that put JJ ahead of Towles? Trust me i know it would be an upset but i'm just curious what you all think?

 

If Highlands wins then loses to Cov Cath or Ashland and Central wins the state title with Wales then does he jump both of them?

The race is Towles and Jude in my opinion..Whatever happens the rest of the year I don't think really matters..One of these two will win it..

Correct me if i'm wrong here raiderbird but Towles played 1 quarter against Boyd County and was 7 for 8 with 122 yards passing. That projects out to a 28 for 32 night with 488 yards passing. I hear that Towles has had many games like this. How does that play into the Mr. Football voters minds. I watched him at Johnson Central last year on a bad ankle and he was AMAZING! In my opinion Highlands would have lost that game without him. I haven't really followed him this year. Is he consistently that good or does he have bad games?

Boy, I sure don't remember a bad game by Towels, or even a mediocre game. Don't know that the voters realize he's played just over half the games. Full games at CCH and Boyle, half all the other games and 1 quarter at Elder?

LOL.... Believe me i'm not trying to make an argument for Towles over JJ but the fact is that everyone on here knows that I give credit where it's due and Towles is AWESOME.. SOOOO glad to have him at UK next year. With that being said I just don't know if it really hurts him that he really got pulled early from allot of blowouts? If you notice my last post i looked at it as what did his numbers "project" to be if he played the entire game? Maybe one of the Highlands faithful can do some number crunching and come up with something close? Could he actually be one of the more productive quarterbacks ever per minute played? Or do the numbers show that? Probably no way to figure this out, i'm just blabbing now....

I think Towles is better this year than he was last year. Add in the D1 scholarship to UK, the Elite 11 QB invite from ESPN and I would say if he doesn't win Mr. Football, it will be an upset IMO.

The thing that impresses me the most about PT is his amazing poise. I mean, he could solve a Rubiks Cube with his pants on fire! He just doesn't get shaken, and can make something spectacular happen at the very last possible second. As Coach Mueller would say, "He is just so much fun to watch!"
