I personally have never seen any on these kids play, but I Have seen Cameron Vocke play 2 times and I am surprised that this young man did not even make the list! He is outstanding, especially in the open field!

 

Agreed. I have seen him do things that not many can....at any level. I have heard people at BW games that see him for the first time say things like, "I don't believe he just did that", or very similar. He has not played many full games so his stats could have been exponentially greater. He might not be the clearcut best in KY but he certainly deserves mention.

Are you kidding me?? Towles made it to the Elite 11..The top 24 qb's in the country..Towles has played half a game 3/4 of the time..The skilled kids on HHS never have great stats because of not playing full games..Your logic is flawed I believe..

 

Also Jude is in the top 25 ALL TIME rushers in the United States! So his accomplishments are not too bad my friend!

I think one kid that is not on the list is Isaac Hardesty. QB/FS for Owensboro Catholic. He has over 2200 yards 28 TD passes. 501 rushing with 5 TD's and 39 tackles 4 Int's, Punt Returns 1 for TD, and can hit.

 

Problem for him is he don't live in the right part of the state and has not signed with UK.

 

The major problem is that Towles was stellar in last year's state championship game and Hardesty and the Aces had a very rough one.

I know there isn't. But what I heard back in 2004 when Pulley won it and the Barnard kid who set the single season record for most passing yards wasn't a canidate was beyond me. The answers I was getting was he was not a UK recruit, and he just played 1 postion. Which that theory was blown out of the water when Cory Robinson shattered Barnards' record of single season passing yards and won Mr. Football.

 

So OC has a player that excels in both sides of the ball and as a special teamer. Now the answer I get is that he got killed in the championship game. I.E Cory Robinson vs. Lex Cath.

To answer mine and rambo's question, I went to Wiki. It said: "Awarded by a panel of sports writers and broadcasters from around the state's Associated Press."

 

As far as I can tell, there are no specific criteria, so each reporter votes however they feel about it based on their own set of criteria. Given that, I would say Towles and Jude are at the top. Based on this season I think it should go to Towles, but those that vote for Jude are looking at it as recognition of his entire career.

No award should be based soley or even mostly on stats. Statistics can be and are padded/manipulated by coaches each week. This has become obvious the last 2 years.

 

Simple examples. Beechwood will play up to 8 games this year against very weak 1A competitiion. If Coach Rash wanted to highlight Cameron V. and get him "Mr. Football" statistics he could rush for 400+ yards in each of those games without a problem. If Coach Mueller wanted to pad Towles passing numbers he could have thrown for 500+ yards in 7 or 8 of their games this year.

 

My opionion, Patrick Towles will win Mr. Football and the vote will not be close.

Something to keep in mind. The people who vote for Mr. Football are the same people who ranked a closed school in their top 10 two years ago and one voter this year who gave Scott County a #1 vote in 6A.
