Didn't need to hold that one for 7 years. Facts are facts. You are quick to run your mouth about coaches but the facts are, your coach knowingly played a player that was not eligible and it took a court injunction to get by Bell County. That is proven facts.

 

Courts trump the KHSAA every time.

 

I am not sure what is worse. Dragging up the past (which even the KHSAA went back and awarded wins) or posters wanting to embarrass kids.

How many times have you heard a player say of a personal award or record that they would trade it for a team championship? I have no doubt the same would be said by JJ Jude & his coach. I don't begrudge a coach for trying to get his player a personal record as long as the TEAM is onboard with the decision. I have never seen Jude carry the ball, but I have heard how hard the kid works. I can't help but think that his teammates see this as a TEAM accomplishment and one that they will remember for a long time. When Peyton Manning and then Tom Brady broke the NFL record for TD passes in a season both threw TD passes when the team had 1st & Goal from inside the 5 and could have run for the TD. I think the team wanted to get them the record. I don't see why anyone is bent out of shape on this one? Seems like they have been drinking some Haterade....

Good post but you wont get much support. I have stated that I have two sons who play for JC and as long as it doesn't comprimise a win then i would be mad at Matney if he didn't give not only JJ but the entire team a chance for these memories. All you have to do is look at the number of members on this site to see what their highschool playing days will mean to them for the rest of their lives. (The Boys Of Fall)

People aren't hating on the record. People are hating on some of the decisions made by the coach to pursue the record. As I stated, JJ still had to run the ball and he did that at a high level. Tremendous running back that I am fortunate enough to have been able to see perform twice. And he impressed me highly both times. His record is his and his teammates record. I just wish his coach would have shown more respect for the game along the way. I think people are confusing this sentiment with hate for JJ and his record and I don't think that is the case. People are defending JJ when no one is saying he isn't deserving. People just don't like his coach's tactics.

I don't feel Matney dishonored Jude or did a disservice to Jude. Regardless of how Jude got the record he still had to do the running and he also managed That being said, Matney dishonored the game and showed incredibly poor sportsmanship in how he chose to go after the record. The record means the same to me regardless of how Jude got it but Matney is a piece of work. There is no denying that and I don't see how anyone can defend Matney's actions. In some people's eyes Jude will never be the record holder and that is sad because regardless of how he got his work, he still put in that work. Congrats to Jude.

Do you even know the FACTS? Highlands did nothing but follow the rulings of KHSAA and the courts. When those were in conflict, they followed the courts, because the courts trump the KHSAA. HHS did not get an injunction, the parents of Mitchell did. If HHS had not followed the injunction, the parents would have sued HHS.

 

HHS and Mueller did nothing wrong, as was borne out when the KHSAA reversed itself, rescinded all fines and put the Highlands victories back on the books.

 

Why don't you know this? I wasn't even aware of this stuff while it was going on - all of the above info is available with a little googling. But some would rather live in their own reality instead of dealing with the facts.

 

As far as Jude is concerned, he must be quite a runner and I'm looking forward to seeing him Friday night. He's got the record, the memories - nothing can take that from him, regardless of how it was accomplished. As far as the coach is concerned, you reap what you sow...

Bottom line imo is this - No way do I hold anything at all against the kid, a player, Jude in this case, job is to play as hard as he can on every snap when he is in the game. J.J. Jude is obviously a great back and he was doing his job, you can't tell a player not to try.

As one of the few people on this forum who actually knows Jim Matney, I can't disagree more. I realize my opinion may not count for much. I do however know Jim personally and can say without hesitation that he is very likeable and fun to be around. I consider him to be a good man, and a loyal friend.

 

I understand the criticism against him as a coach. He has done some things that bring a lot of heat on himself, and deservedly so. I am not excusing that, as I have disagreed with a lot of them. My point simply is those things may shape his coaching legacy in the eyes of others, but they in no way define the man. I know that is maybe hard to understand, but my opinion comes from more than 30 years of knowing him. If you talk to the former players of his and others who know him well, I think you would find the vast majority of them would agree.
