The old rule was rotation. AL hosted one year and NL the next. So it was just as random - ask the Cardinals fan about having to go to Minnesota (85-77) in 1987. Major League Baseball has never used the best record format that the NBA and NHL use.

If we start listing mistakes in that game by both teams, we won't be getting any sleep tonight. How about Ogando not being able to throw strikes?

 

VOR I agree! Maybe we just expect too much from guys making a ton of money, who are suppose to be Professional Baseball players, who seem to not to be able to catch or throw!

For those that don't know, WPA (Win Probability Added) is a fun-after-the-fact statistic that measures the difference in Win Expectancy percentage before the play and then after the play. That difference is then credited/debited to the batter and the pitcher. Last night, David Freese obtained the highest WPA in World Series history, .953. It beats out Kirk Gibson's record for batters in 1988 (.870) and Babe Ruth's for combined pitcher/batter from 1916 (.893). That is incredible. Talk about clutch hits in huge situations. Congrats to David Freese.

 

Interesting about Babe Ruth's previos record from 1916: that number got up there because he pitched all 14 innings of that game, which led to a 1.084 WPA but he had a bad offensive game, with a -.191 WPA as a batter, which led to his .893.

Amazing. I just can't imagine St. Louis losing tomorrow.

 

I remember hearing the same thing about the Red Sox the day after Carlton Fisk hit his homerun against the Reds. Of course, the Rangers are not the Big Red Machine.

MLB needs to consider a neutral site for the World Series. Forget the All-star game thing. Such an advantage to the Cards.

I remember hearing the same thing about the Red Sox the day after Carlton Fisk hit his homerun against the Reds. Of course, the Rangers are not the Big Red Machine.

 

In the recent ESPN Steve Bartman documentary Moises Alou told interviewer Alex Gibney that (after the Cubs blew game 6) he and Aramis Ramirez booked a flight home to the Dominican Republic before Game 7 (of the NLCS) the next day, even though the series was tied and a victory would have given the Cubs the National League pennant and a trip to the World Series.

 

Moises might have had a hard time pulling that one off if Pete Rose had been on that Cubs squad. I saw an interview with Sparky in which he described walking into the clubhouse at Fenway after Fisk's Game 6 home run. He was trying not to throw up and knew he would not sleep that night. Pete approached him with a smile and commented about what a great game it had been. When Sparky asked if he was crazy, Pete assured him not to worry. Pete was totally confident that the Reds would win Game 7.

Games like last night are why BASEBALL is the greatest game. I don't like the Cardinals, but you have got to give them credit. If the Rangers get in trouble, look for #34 to shed that shirt and tie and come in heaving that heater. Nolan Ryan will throw strikes you can bet on that.....Go Texas.
