Takeaways

Donovan McCoy is a gamer and had his coming out party. A little sneak preview of what's to come next year.

David "All I do is catch TD passes" Christian had a huge 58 yrd TD score.

Birds offensive line played great.

Defense for Birds made some big stops late in the game.

Ozzie Sheehan showed why he is a true SR leader on this team. 7 catches for a buck 90. Nice

Officiating was not very good but didnt have any major affect in the outcome. thankfully

Great atmosphere at the Pitt

Did I say D McCoy was huge in this game?

How about the leg on Carter New? The boy can punch it and accurately. He made some nice hits at DB also, in fact he blew up Burdine's knee one play. I was worried that may have been a career enders for the poor kid.

Snaps were bad on punts but that just shows you how important your long snapper is to a team. His wrist looked jacked up I hope he heals quickly.

I think the defense held Elder to 13 points and it seemed that Elder's offense was similar to Coc Cath's especially in the first half. Looks like the D is ready for the REEE

Great win for the Birds! I have to agree that the officiating was HORRIBLE! The Ref's should have this game reviewed by whatever authority oversees them across the river and they should be disciplined for the obvious bias they displayed all game long. I guess now we know who Elders 12th man really is...

Dale made a great adjustment to the defense that many people didn't notice . I won't go into details but it had a huge impact in keeping Elder out of the endzone in the second half.

The officials had a hand in the first half success of Elder. There was an interception by the Birds from the Elder QB , that was clearly an interception , but the refs had to huddle to discuss it. If they would have overturned that call there may have been a riot by the Highlands fans. Then on a punt return by Elder , an Elder player blocked in the back of Highlands player that everyone in the joint saw , a flag was thrown , I'm surprized the Highlands player didn't have a whip lash injury. Could have been called flagrant , in my opinion. Then Highlands got held by Elder 2 yards in front of official with the white hat , no call but the HHS player could have cried rape after his jersey was almost pulled off. The officiating wasn't great but I have seen worse.

The best thing that I saw in this game was that Highlands was down 17-7 after losing their D1 QB to injury, they didn't give up and fought like pitbulls to win the game. Just another great Highlands team !!! Great job young men !!

For those at the game, what would you estimate the crowd size to be last night?

I'd say 75% capacity whatever that is. I thought pretty good crowd.

I have never been to the Pit. It seems like I have heard that for a sold out game they get over 10,000 in there. So 75% puts it at 7,500. Does that sound right?

The lower rows at the Pit are awful, especially if you have the team right in front of you.

Not that it matters, but I just watched the highlights on Channel 19. Elder's qb knee was down on that first touchdown to tie the game. And by the highlights you would have thought Highlands lost. They showed 2 Elder td's and 4th down stop by Elder. No bird highlights at all.[/QUOTe]

Wow give me a break. That's all that happens over here. Highlands Beechwood and NCC. Same with the paper. I understand they're all state contenders, but come on man.

Good win for Highlands. It might have been different if Elder had all their players.

You mean if Highlands had Towles... lol

You should have just stopped at good win.

Gentlemen and Ladies, yes my wife is addicted to this sight too; let's just say when a team goes up against any of the many storied football programs in the GCL you are in for a game. Not matter if it is an off year, suspensions, injuries, who cares, its the greatest game on earth. Elder, St. Xavier, Moeller, and that little city school of Colerain are all State Champs in Football for one of the cornerstone States of High School Football. That is big time whether you like those teams or not. Twenty State Football Championships in Kentucky is nothing to sneeze at either. This was yet another classic rivalry created by some of the best high school football players from two states. This just happened in our own back yard, no matter what side of the River you are on, and we all had a front row seat. How can you not get excited when two former State Championship teams faceoff? Bring on the traditions and let's all enjoy!

Stats:

Highlands: Rushing 87; Passing 298; Total 385

Elder: Rushing 85; Passing 178; Total 257

Understand that Baby Huey (Elder) complained about the Highlands players celebration after the game.
