Highlands 34 Elder (OH) 29

Perhaps his 14 yr run at Elder has run its course. That was hard to watch considering the Program and Tradition at Elder.

Talk like you have some sense. I admire Ramsey for standing for principle over wins. Elder is a very good team and played the Birds to the end without their entire secondary. And in the end, we hope the Elder seniors come out winners in life.

McCoy was steady under the circumstances. The Defense had their best game of the season. 50 yard field goal by New was the play of the game. Ozzie Sheehan was the best player on the field.

No lacklusterness in this game. First NKY win since 1966 when the NCC Breds won at the Pit. McCoy stepped up big time!

A most gratifying win for Highlands. First drive in classic form, long completion and PT scores with his feet. He took a serious hit, and I sure hope he is OK. Two "spots" by the officials assisted Elder greatly as they picked-up momentum scoring 17 unanswered. One spot on 4th and short kept the Panther's 1st drive alive. Latter in the red zone, a loss at the 15 was nulified and spotted at the 11? These were amazing. Back-up QB D. McCoy showed tremdous poise and ability. As in each of their past meetings, HHS lead at the half. And HHS D would not give up a TD in the 2nd half. Elder's D kept the Panthers in it, but steady play by the Birds on both sides of the ball during 2nd half was the difference. Both teams gave their all. Local media mentioned that Elder played without key players that had been suspended. Highland's defensive speed and hitting was tremdous. Offensively, Highlands mixed-up the play calling well and they pushed Elder around the Pit.

From the Pit......I only saw 1 sophomore playing on offense(WR #94 - I don't know his name but was told at the game he was a sophomore).

The starters missing on offense were QB Gramke, RB Fox, OG Nusekabel, C Mike Schroer. They were replaced by JR QB Moore, JR RB Burdine, JR OL Marsh, and JR OL Hilvert.

I saw only a couple sophomores on defense DB Mazza, DB Bailey, DE Applegate(he played sparingly). I think I'm missing one.

Elder was really missing Ian Gunn, that was a big loss. Not having Groll and Niehauser hurt as well.

Wow, since 1966 is a long time for no NKY team to win at the PIT. Cov Cath didn't even have a football team in '66. This season, Elder has lost all of its home games. Playing against that enormous offensive line will have the Birds ready for a rematch with the Colonels.

Congratulations Bluebirds.

No one is questioning Ramsey for what he did with the player suspensions. Every one of the Elder faithful I talked with supported that move 100%.

The disappointment with the season, and other recent seasons go beyond one loss to Highlands. The natives are restless, and unless something is done to right the ship, changes will be made.

What was confusing to me was early in the game with Elder basically getting yards on the ground when they pleased, on 4th & 3 somewhere around midfield. Ramsey elected to go for it instead of pinning HHS. Elder then ran a fade route(the ball was nowhere close) rather than pounding it right up the middle. I am betting Ramsey would love to have that play back. Very poor play calling!

Great pictures. Looks like he captured a picture of the play where Towles may have received his concussion. Looks helmet to helmet. Wishing a speedy recovery to all the banged up Birds and Panthers from last night! Hard hitting game!

In that photo I believe Towles gets spun around and #88 comes in from behind and has a helmet to back of Towles helmet hit. Towles scored two plays later but that was the hit I believe that put him out.

Takeaways

Donovan McCoy is a gamer and had his coming out party. A little sneak preview of what's to come next year.

David "All I do is catch TD passes" Christian had a huge 58 yrd TD score.

Birds offensive line played great.

Defense for Birds made some big stops late in the game.

Ozzie Sheehan showed why he is a true SR leader on this team. 7 catches for a buck 90. Nice

Officiating was not very good but didnt have any major affect in the outcome. thankfully

Great atmosphere at the Pitt

Did I say D McCoy was huge in this game?

How about the leg on Carter New? The boy can punch it and accurately. He made some nice hits at DB also, in fact he blew up Burdine's knee one play. I was worried that may have been a career enders for the poor kid.

Snaps were bad on punts but that just shows you how important your long snapper is to a team. His wrist looked jacked up I hope he heals quickly.

To answer this question, Run to State, Littleluck55 and anyone else that was questioning the issues with the punting game, the regular long snapper hurt his hand early in the game so the back up long snapper was playing. As few times as the regular long snapper has snapped in games this year, the backup has snapped it even fewer times (try zero). So yes, they will be working on this a lot in practice this week.
Thanks for the info, NKYMoHo! I knew it had to be something out of the ordinary. Tough spot to be put in for the back up, I'm sure he'll get more practice and will do just fine. :thumb:
