Highlands 34 Elder (OH) 29

Congrats 'Birds!

They needed a tough game before the playoffs started and they got it tonight. Hopefully PT is ok and back for the 1st or 2nd round of the playoffs.

Anyone have the count on penalities? Highlands had more than usual, but I bet Elder had less than 4 called on them.

Wonder how many snaps and punts will be practiced this week.

The defense did a good job, bent but didn't break.

To answer this question, Run to State, Littleluck55 and anyone else that was questioning the issues with the punting game, the regular long snapper hurt his hand early in the game so the back up long snapper was playing. As few times as the regular long snapper has snapped in games this year, the backup has snapped it even fewer times (try zero). So yes, they will be working on this a lot in practice this week.

Congrats, Birds!

Ramsey could be one of the worst play callers I have ever seen...Wow!!!!! Elder had some big boys!! Great job Birds..:ylsuper:

Perhaps his 14 yr run at Elder has run its course. That was hard to watch considering the Program and Tradition at Elder.

I think you could have said that a few years ago. Elder is still a fine fine program, but not in the early 2000's anymore.

My predition was Special Teams could be the difference in the game and it was. Carter New with some huge kicks, and the issues going on with the long snaps. People just assume that sanp is going to be on the money every time regardless of the person snapping it. Mitch Meyer is the Highlands long snapper and does one heck of a job imo. I hope he if ok and is back on track next week. Tough position for the backup especially in a big game and especially after the first snap didnt go so well and then it sorta snowballs thereafter.

Hats off to McCoy stepped up in a huge way tonight and forever cemented himself in Highlands history.

If you didn't go to the game you missed a good one. I just got back from the pit. I was a little disappointed when I got there . I had a reserved seat ticket along with the others I was with. So, we thought we would get to Price Hill early and get something to eat and killed lots of time doing so. Then when we got to the pit we found out the joke was on us as we were lucky to even get a seat.

As far as the game goes , great win for the birds. The D Birds played mad tonight and the running backs and wide recievers for Elder were getting pounded and gang tackled on every play. The Elder players were hurting but stayed in the game. The Birds were laying the wood all night long. Elder players made some hard hits too , but the Birds had more of them.

The offensive line played great giving ample time for the HHS QB's to find the open recievers. The players that needed to step , did an outstanding job. Late in the game when HHS needed first downs to run out the clock , again players got it done.

In closing , I think I said this would be a war . This was one of the most physical high school games that I have ever seen. Elder is the best 2-7 team that I have ever seen. On the way home the Elder radio announcer said that the last time Elder lost to a northern Ky team was back in 1966. It was Newport Catholic (now NCC) who was also included back then in the GCL.

Ever since Coach Mueller and Highlands began two-platooning, Highlands is 2-0 vs. the GCL-S and 4-0 overall against Cincinnati teams.

I thought last year was the first year they started platooning. Did they do it two years ago when they beat St. X?

Birds defense played awesome tonight! I don't even want to mention names because I'll leave someone out.

How 'bout the O-line buckling it up tight & running out the clock to end the game - very nice.

Big, big win for the Birds. Overcome losing Towles, 4 or 5 insane spots & a host of very suspect calls by the officials, a handfull of their own miscues (which is going to happen some time), and still come out of the Pit with the win. Nice character win for the boys.

They began two-platooning for the 2009 season.

I thought Sheehan was unstoppable and Dale could have thrown it every down to him. Different getty-up then anyone else on the field.

The Elder announcers described the crowd as being rather thin.

I just witnessed one of the worst officiated football games I have seen in over thirty years of watching high school football. The Elder fans near me apologized for the officials. This is not the caliber of officiating expected in the GCL.

Every marking of the football for play was an adventure in fantasy plan. One offensive lineman realized he wasn’t being called for holding of the Highlands’ defensive players so he just started tackling them. The Umpire and Referee were clueless. A number of times the Elder team was in hurry-up offense and you thought a player was in motion. No he was running to the bench and another player ran on to the field.

After a while you just realized how farcical the officiating was and just kept laughing at them. It became a microcosm of the way American life has become in the hands of bureaucrats.
