Jimmy Chaffins is in as an Athlete why cant Ron .. THE STATES LEADING RUSHER...

The athlete list is not the RB position list, though some RB's are on it. It is probably harder to choose those on that list because they have to dominate on both sides of the ball.

This is a very solid list that's hard to argue. Even a tougher list than the All-State list because all classes are combined.

Jimmy C.haffins is in as an Athlete why cant Ron .. THE STATES LEADING RUSHER...

Both Blume and Chaffin had an outstanding year, but after doing a little research, I can somewhat understand why Chaffin was selected on the Athlete Team.

Ron Blume

Rushing: 191/2040 (10.7 avg), 23 TD's

Receiving: unknown on receptions and yardage, 1 TD

Kick and Punt Returning: 3 TD's

Defense: used infrequently

Kicking: had no extra points or field goals

Miscellaneous: scored six 2-point conversions

Total Points Scored: 174

Jimmy Chaffin

Rushing: 133/1533 (11.5 avg.), 17 TD's

Receiving: 9/311 (34.6 avg.), 6 TD's

Kick and Punt Returning: 6 TD's

Defense: played full time, 50 tackles, 6 int., blocked 1 extra point

Kicking: kicked 27 extra points, no field goals

Miscellaneous: scored two 2-point conversions.

Total points scored: 193

Reviewing these numbers, Chaffin looks like the better all-around player. He played both ways, plus handled the kicking. Although he had less total rushing yardage than Blume, his average per carry was almost a yard higher. Chaffin outscored Blume 6 to 1 in receiving TD's, and also outscored him 193 to 174 in total points.

Great list and I think it is the best one in the state the past three years. There will always be people left off the list that are debatable. I'd like to give props to two kids that aren't on there that could be argued the best at their positions:

WR Wes Caldwell Lexington Catholic (led the state in recieving TD's and had over 1,000 yards)

DB Ben Revere Lexington Catholic (I can honestly say that he is the best shutdown corner I have seen in High School)

Both of those guys are Juniors and have a great chance to make it next year.

Congrats to all the kids on the list. Congrats to Coach Sphire and Justin Burke for their overall awards. Thank you to all the people that put in a lot of time on this list!

I agree about Caldwell. Caldwell was Lex Cath's best receiver and will be a D1 WR recruit next year. Revere is good, but just too small IMO.

I agree, Blume did not play much on defense so i can hardly see how he could make an ATH on this team.

Jimmy Chaffin Is what the ATH team is all about.

He is out on the football field on every play ,Not only offense but defense and also special teams and he excels.

Great choice guys.:thumb:

And congratulations to all the members of BGP.com football team.

6 something, 2 something, and closes on the ball like a blue tick hound. :D

But seriously, be's very good and very deserving to be on the list. Their are checks and balances along the way to putting this out. At least 11 major list revisions and countless hours or debate in order to get it right. Unlike other lists, no stone is left unturned to make sure they get it right, or as close to it as is possible. How do I know? Because last year I popped off about a guy who I thought should have been on the list and then recieved an education on the process. I can tell you from first hand knowledge, that their is no bias, and no intent other than to put the 36 most deserving players in the state on the list. We have some great players in NKY who were considered but didn't make the list becuase they just didn't fit. For instance.

Drew Ellison and Sam Diehl...... great QB's but their is only room for one on the list and Justin Burke is it.

Lincoln Adams, Eric Sawyer, Corey Farris, Brent Bishop, Scotty Gray, at RB... Great players again but none will beat out the two on the list.

I could go on and on, but you see my point. Even though they are great players, they just didn't have the year or whatever to beat out the kids on the list. That is not a knock on them. Heck, I loved watching all these guys. It's just a very short list. It is not supposed to be an all inclusive list. It is supposed to be an "elite" list. The top 36 in the state. That's out of 10,000+ HS football players (50 players on a team X 200plus teams). I feel your pain for whoever the LB was you had in mind, but I can assure you, there were days and days and more days of deliberation by people who were just looking to do the right thing. If someone is not on the list, and should have been considered, I can assure you they were.

I really did not have a problem. I never really heard that much about the kid before. Sounds like a great player.

This is a good list. Have seen many of the players on there play, and agree they are deserving. By far the best considered All-State team released.

That said, I am disappointed that Brian Calhoun, QB/CB Bardstown, was left off the "Athletes" list. I just don't believe that Bardstown gets to where it did without at least one "star," and Brian was it. Close to 1000 yds rushing (on a team where 5 RB's had 500+ yds), 1000+ passing, 20+ TD's rushing, more passing, 4 punt returns for TD, numerous INT's at defensive back . . . He was human highlight reel.

Obviously, not everyone can make the list.

Ohhhh, my bad, I misinterpretted your statement then. Here's what I know of him.

Sauerbeck was listed as one of the "Top 10 Players in NKY" in the enquirers coaches poll just put out. He is on numerous all-star lists. I would guess he is 6-2, 245-260 lbs. Not sure where he is going after graduation. He was the district representative for 4A in the state. This season he had 147 tackles, 3 sacks, 1 interception, and a safety. Last season he had 123 tackles, 1 sack and 1 fumble recovery. 2TD's. He was the leader of the D and the team this year. He also played as a sophmore, but I have no stats.

What are Sauerback's college choices looking like?
