All-BGP Team

Ohhhh, my bad, I misinterpretted your statement then. Here's what I know of him.

Sauerbeck was listed as one of the "Top 10 Players in NKY" in the enquirers coaches poll just put out. He is on numerous all-star lists. I would guess he is 6-2, 245-260 lbs. Not sure where he is going after graduation. He was the district representative for 4A in the state. This season he had 147 tackles, 3 sacks, 1 interception, and a safety. Last season he had 123 tackles, 1 sack and 1 fumble recovery. 2TD's. He was the leader of the D and the team this year. He also played as a sophmore, but I have no stats.

Your must be mistaken, he is 6 ft. 225, but you are right about him being a heck of a player.

I guessed, didn't see his height and weight anywhere and had to go by memmory. He must wear some big pads cause he looked more like 250 than 225.

What are Sauerback's college choices looking like?

I honestly don't know. I'm not that close to the program. I would think 1-AA, NAIA, or D-3 would be a good fit for him. I think he's a little too short for the big schools. He is an awesome player though.

Congratulations to the players on the list!

He plays alot bigger than he is. He has very little body fat and a whole lot of muscle mass. Last time I talked to his dad, he wasn't getting a whole lot of looks. But they think that will change. Somebody will get a very dedicated kid and the rest will miss out on him because they think he is too small. Good luck to you Matt, you will do well.

I have not seen all the players on the list so I do not mean to disparage anyone. Jimmy Chaffin belongs on this team and the ATHLETE position is a perfect place for him. He truly is a great all around athlete and I for one look forward to seeing him play somewhere in the future. He is a pleasure to play against and to watch.

Great job with this BGP team guys, I agree with the other posts that this is the best team put out yet!!!!

You can't tell me that their is a better TE in the state than Ben Guidguli....... :mad:The kid has great hands and a motor that doesn't quite..

According to another thread, the kid who beat him out is Michigan St. bound. No shame in that, only 1 TE was chosen.

Congrats to Matt Maynard. He was a scoring machine and played great on O,D, and Special teams.

I agree about Caldwell. Caldwell was Lex Cath's best receiver and will be a D1 WR recruit next year. Revere is good, but just too small IMO.

In high school, size from a CB is an overrated factor. On the next level it means much more. Seeing the type of technique and subtle tricks he played with, his size is a non factor. He did match up well, and came out on top agianst a 6'7'' Henderson from LCA, and Gu from Highlands, and Bovard(I thought he should get more consideration for all state teams) from Cov Cath.

He held the big kid from Lex Christian to 0 catches, the 6'4 or 6'5 kid from Scott Co to 0 catches, Bovard to about 90 yards under his average, Guduli to 1 catch etc etc. He's the best I've seen and his play on the field speaks for itself. Without him I think it would have been tough to run the system Lex Cath ran. He was like Deion Sanders in theory. He took your best WR and absoloutly shut them down one on one which covered 1/2 the field with one man allowing the FS to be more active elsewhere.

Probably doesn't hurt that he covered Caldwell/Burbage every day in practice against a QB like Burke. He's a very good HS corner, but he would be exposed at the major college level.

Reveres future is in baseball. 1st team all city last year, 3rd team all city as a freshman. Leadoff hitter near .500, over 10 home runs last year, and if I saw correct he only has struck out once in two years. Also, as stick1 noted, the FS could do much more. A parent said that young man tied both the single season, and carrer interception records at LC.

Revere is arguably the best baseball player in the state and has a great chance to get drafted. I'm not saying he would be a cover corner in the SEC I was simply saying that he's the best I've seen in High School at shuting down the other teams best WR. Pat Swindeman did tie the LC int record and won the MVP in the state championship game. The point brought up about going live everyday against two of the top WR's and top QB in the state everyday is a very good point!

Both Blume and Chaffin had an outstanding year, but after doing a little research, I can somewhat understand why Chaffin was selected on the Athlete Team.

Ron Blume

Rushing: 191/2040 (10.7 avg), 23 TD's

Receiving: unknown on receptions and yardage, 1 TD

Kick and Punt Returning: 3 TD's

Defense: used infrequently

Kicking: had no extra points or field goals

Miscellaneous: scored six 2-point conversions

Total Points Scored: 174

Jimmy Chaffin

Rushing: 133/1533 (11.5 avg.), 17 TD's

Receiving: 9/311 (34.6 avg.), 6 TD's

Kick and Punt Returning: 6 TD's

Defense: played full time, 50 tackles, 6 int., blocked 1 extra point

Kicking: kicked 27 extra points, no field goals

Miscellaneous: scored two 2-point conversions.

Total points scored: 193

Reviewing these numbers, Chaffin looks like the better all-around player. He played both ways, plus handled the kicking. Although he had less total rushing yardage than Blume, his average per carry was almost a yard higher. Chaffin outscored Blume 6 to 1 in receiving TD's, and also outscored him 193 to 174 in total points.

So if we are to go by the stats you posted then Ron Blume gets penalized because we didn't HAVE to use him at kicking or on defense...Also it's not fair to compare the kick returns for TD's when NO ONE WOULD KICK TO RON OR any of other guys... they would rather kick out of bounds then take the chance on Ron or Shawn Grim returning it for a touchdown. I think it's sad that Blume led the state in rushing all season and still gets no respect from anyone on here or on WYMT.

It does hurt his chances of making the team as an "athlete". I would think you have a legit beef about him not being one of the running backs. Who has offered the kid? How did he do in big games against big-time competition? I'm really not in favor of giving a lot of credit for racking up 2,000 plus yards unless it done against top teams in games that really mattered.
