I hate when people talk like this. If Lamar Dawson listened to this kind of foolishness he'd be the starting middle linebacker for an incredibly bad UL team or an incredibly bad UK team. Instead he is poised to be the starting middle linebacker at USC as a sophomore. Anyone who would rather see a kid lose at UL/UK instead of going to a real college football program is being selfish. Let the kid go and if the kid is overhyped he can always come home and play in the minor leagues of college football for UK/UL. At this point UK/UL is the school you choose if your best D-1 offer is EKU or WKU.

Many of us like to see in-state kids play for our favorite in-state college. If that is "foolishness", my apologies. I never like to act or speak "foolishly". But, had he chosen to play at UK or UL (even with offers from schools like USC on the table) I don't agree that such a decison would have been "foolish". USC is not ranked in the top 25. USC also produced OJ Simpson (murderer) and more recently Reggie Bush (cheater). Lane Kiffin, loyalty? Making a college selection involves consideraton of more than just a school's football tradition. Former Trinity star linebacker Jordan Whiting accepted a scholarship at Ohio State. He's now a redshirt sophmore playing special teams mostly. Ohio State is now embroiled in an ongoing NCAA investigation and lost their head coach. Whiting is a good student and Ohio State may have been the best academic fit for him. Some kids desire immediate playing time beyond special teams. These kids put a lot of time and effort into football, some get frustrated when they don't get an opportunity to play early.

What I am saying is I hate when people act like a kid isn't good enough to play immediately at a school like Oklahoma, Alabama or Ohio State and should go to UL or UK instead. To me, that's weak. I don't like to sell kids short and this state isn't producing a ton of BCS talent. To me, it sends the wrong message to the kid when people say, "don't go to Oklahoma, Alabama, (fill in any BCS title challenging school)....they'll redshirt you and you won't play until you're a junior." Why not just say..."you're good for Ky talent but nationwide you aren't good enough. Just go to UK/UL and you can be a star instantly." I'd rather see James Quick go to Oklahoma and sit on the bench for 3 years and catch the game winning touchdown against Alabama in the BCS title game as a senior than watch him shine as a freshman at a mediocre UL/UK. If it doesn't work out then come home. I can even handle a kid saying that is what he wants to do but when fans act that way it grates me.

 

As for your comments about USC and programs all I am going to say is that USC would defeat UK or UL by 20 points easy. USC will be ranked in the top 25 before this year is over and throughout Lamar's tenure at USC. Will UK/UL? USC will play in multiple bowl games while Lamar is at USC. Will UK/UL? USC had nothing to do with OJ's murder case. I don't see the significance of how that would affect where Lamar Dawson plays football. Matter of fact......OJ was long gone from USC when he had his murder case and USC has removed all traces of OJ from their hallowed halls. As for Reggie Bush...he just got caught....your favorite college football program cheats too. Had you followed Lamar's recruitment closely you'd recognize that USC or UT were the two best places for him. And like I said, he'll be starting middle linebacker as a true sophomore next year.

 

I would tell my kid to go to the greater school if he had the opportunity. Nobody should ever settle for less.

Very true. I saw a post that I wanted to respond to. I know it isn't the topic of the game but many discussions can sprout from a game thread topic that don't discuss the game at heart. With all due respect, I'll quickly back off when a moderator says to keep it on topic or the thread is closed but I have yet to see any such warning. Sometimes it is a waste of time to start a whole new thread when only two people are having a discussion. I'm sorry if our conversation about James Quick's future prospects bothers you. Everything is always all good with me. I'll talk about any topic in any thread as long as the thread is open. Take care.

I understand and appreciate your comments. I guess it might be considered fun and interesting to discuss the vagaries of the recruitment process and what might happen two years from now -- but had hoped that there would be much more banter - about a game that "some of us" have waited a year for. I hear you. It'd probably be easier to have that discussion but it seems as if there are as many St. X fans on BGP as there were at the game last Friday. I understand that also. We here at Boyle seem to have lost some fans also since it isn't a lock for Boyle to win state this year. Go figure.:idunno:

 

Good luck this year. I enjoy following Trinity and their success. As a Kentuckian I am proud to see a Ky team doing so well nationally and receiving recognition for their success as well. Very impressive year so far. Keep it up.:thumb:

That said, I still want them here in the 'Ville. Remember the '06 Cards? Yeah, the one that could've beaten any team in the nation.....that was mostly homegrown talent running up those points. I'd like to see that again.

I also said I would rather see a kid go to Alabama or Oklahoma and shine as a senior than come to UK/UL and play immediately. I don't see anything wrong with wanting them at UK/UL I just hate when people say they SHOULD go to UK/UL instead of Alabama/Oklahoma because they'll play right away at UK/UL and not at Oklahoma/Alabama. To me that is insulting to the kid.
