Brossart players have been running their mouths all summer to the NewCath players. I've been waiting for this one. Players name the score. Hopefully 70-0.

I did hear BB kids have been talking a lot. I know the NewCath kids will be more than ready to show who is the "boss"

That is a ridiculous statement. The NC program is one of the premiere programs in the Commonwealth. Brossart is light years behind. Brossart has definitely made tremendous strides the last 3 years, but lets face it - Brossart has - ZERO- chance in this game - PERIOD. The program is only 5 years old. Why there is even a thread asking who will win this game is pretty ridiculous in itself. As for the arrogance statements - It's everywhere. Wake up. If not mistaken, I believe an NC parent was escorted out by Alexandria's finest during the NC/Brossart basketball game. I also believe an NC parent may have had some issues with the law for "keying" a middle school coaches car. So before speaking about atttude's of adults - some may need to look in the mirror - Brossart parents included, Not just NC. NC needs to put up their 50-60 and move on and I hope EVERYONE on both sides stay healthy.

It is a heated rivalry, or competition, which extends beyond the two schools athletic programs themselves, fueled by competition for prospective Mustangs and Thoroughbreds, heightened by perceived (or actual) actions by coaches, boosters, fans, and parents, and then spills down to the kids themselves.

Bishop Hughes could have put a stop to all of this insanity years ago, when he had a great business vision - proposing the merge the two schools into a single Campbell County Catholic. But at the time the factions of each high school protested vehemently and we were both left to fend for ourselves. Had he demanded that we learn to get along and built that school, we eventually would have done just that, and would have been kicking everbody's butts for the last twenty years, and I would have the Shields book completed by now.

As long as Brossart and NCC each exist there will always be a heated rivalry on the surface and an even hotter dislike for each other that boils just beneath the surface. The KHSAA did Brossart no favors by serving us up on a silver platter to the NCC football program. Had Brossart been allowed to remain in Class 1-A, where it is likely we will return in a couple of years, we could have carved out a niche in that division where we would perhaps have a winning record year in and year out, and gone deep in the playoffs which would have made us a nice alternative for kids on the fence to actually come and play in a winning program closer to home instead of standing on the sidelines watching others compete.

The NCC football program started in the mid-fifties, and went through some lean years before achieving the football prominance that they enjoy today. Since their inception NCC has enjoyed sole option status for student/athletes wishing to play football at a Catholic school here in Campbell County. Should the Brossart football program survive their own lean years, there will come a day when Brossart will catch up with the Thoroughbreds and achieve equal status. It might not happen in my lifetime, but it will happen. The Brossart basketball program played second fiddle to NCC for nearly 30 years before we caught up, ditto for nearly all of our other sports. Brossart High School did not become a "district" high school until 1961, and didn't begin to compete with NCC at anything until the 80's.

NCC accomplishes nothing by devestating this year's Mustangs, other than proving that they are the superior, or far superior football team on that given night, and that while Brossart was focusing its attentions in other areas and failing to start a football program at a more advantagous time, NCC was gaining a decided upper-hand at football.

I don't hate anyone. I just find a lot of the Brossart faithful to be very full of themselves. I'm sure that the feeling is mutual. Also, both schools are so comparable academically, that this other part of the high school experience will sway them. If I'm a football and baseball player primarily, I'm looking at NewCath. If I like basketball, I do what the 8th graders at St. Joes have done the past few years and go with my classmates to either one. That, again, is for those on the fence.

Don't think we are at all willing to concede any advantage to NCC in baseball. :madman:

Mexitucky first off I hope NCC uses class as they normally do when this situation arises.

Second the arrogance of Brossart? Yes I have seen that over the years in a variety of athletic venues. Never used to be that way but since about the 2000's I have had a tough time with the attitude of a variety of ADULTS in the program as well as supporters of the program. But unless the adults step out there and take some hits  I hope they do not run the score up for the players sake............

Third you are dead on with your comments about restocking the pond. Between these two schools they are vying for the same students/athletes..........NCC was always the choice for the athlete until about 1992-1993 when Brossart's boys basketball coach started "keeping home" some of those better athletes.......

One thing I will say in my observations of NCC teams over the years in all sports is they never embarrass opponents. Brossart.............well..............I have seen some outlandish basketball scores as a fan of an opposing team as well as seen a lot of "tooting their own horn" in football. But they are very proud of what they have accomplished and do not have the long standing tradition that NCC has in baseball, football, and basketball.

What I think is the scary part for NCC is IF Brossart gains any momentum in football at all and begins to convince players in the Cold Spring, Alexandria, California areas to play for the closer school.....well NCC would have issues not just with football but enrollment in general as they cannot sustain themselves with drawing from Newport, Bellevue, Dayton, etc and Fort Thomas is always an iffy area for them due to Highlands academic and athletic success.........

My point being I agree NCC needs to keep the thumb on Brossart in football but I highly doubt they will run the score up really bad unless it is unavoidable (like a Highlands vs Mason County this past weekend). :thumb:

Seriously--Examples?? First off when has Brossart EVER had much of a chance to show off in football, and in basketball?? Give me a break?? Their '05 & '07 teams finished # 1 in NKY and NEVER ran up the score, even on occasions when it was hard not to. You're way, way off on this one!!

This said, NCC will should name the score as there is a large distance between these programs as everyone knows--Hopefully the 'Breds handle this situation with class, and both teams come out intact. Best of luck to both!!

I am a fan of any rivalry that has had one school cut the head off of the other team's mascot that was perched on top of the school.

Uh Oh !

Is Brady Thacker still injured? Any updates on him?

The last I heard had him out for the season

That stinks :madman:

First "tooting your own horn" would be statements being made.....not performance on the field.

Secondly, as a Brossart opponent for many years I have witnessed and can verify many beatdowns and embarrassing scores by one of your former boys coaches and one of your former girls coaches, the arrogance of two of your more recent boy and girl coaches, the superiority complex of your AD and your coaches when it involves the All A tournaments ever since they were moved into the 10th region, the inflexibility when it comes to where and how you host tournaments, the yearly inflated and laughable stats turned into the newspaper in at least one of your sports, etc. These are the examples I have personally witnessed as your opponent.

Now to get back to the thread topic of the game:

How many players does Brossart dress on Friday nights?

Is there any offensive weapon that they have that could have a good showing?

I am a fan of any rivalry that has had one school cut the head off of the other team's mascot that was perched on top of the school.

That was a great prank. They picked the NewCath-Beechwood game night as the night to do it. Well played. They got in some trouble for it, but I'd say that many were amazed with their planning and preparation. I was, and I'm a fan of the school that got vandalized.

I also recall during that basketball game that a Brossart parent was talking smack to the NCC players after the game was over and Brossart had won. At least the NCC parent was directing this smack to the referee - an adult. So yeah, it goes both ways. I sincerely hope that the parents of both schools remember that we are both Christian schools who should be setting an example for the kids on the field as well as in the stands.

This would never have happened because the Diocese is committed to making Catholic High School education accessible to the inner city. Moving the school to a centralized location in the county would not be consistent with that goal.
