Let's Say Peyton Manning Can't Play This Year

Neck injuries are not something you chance.

Let's say for this thread that PM doesn't play.

Colts aren't going to go with Kerry Collins in this case.

They're going to look for an available QB that they think can lead this team.

Do they call 513?

Plenty of teams have been interested in Palmer, so if Mike Brown wasn't interested in trading him then. I doubt he would trade him to them then. So even if they become interested it wouldn't matter.

At least they aren't the Falcons, Browns or Steelers. However if Palmer wanted to play on the west coast and he wasn't lying about why he wanted out of Cinci then he'd have no reason to want to go to Indianapolis.

I'm not sure they can go with anyone but Painter. I believe it was Reggie Wayne that said "at least Painter gets them to page 50 of the play book". No chance they bring in someone for just 1-2 weeks. It will either be Collins or Painter.

So are we saying PM being out for the year starting now, or after the first couple of weeks of the season, because I think it's two totally different answers.

If he was out for the season now, I believe they get aggressive in trying to find someone to help them win this year.

If he wasn't out for the season until week 3 or so then I believe they stick with Collins then move with Painter if Collins fails.

No chance they call Brown for Palmer. They know he's as stubborn as a mule and even if he would listen to an offer, it would take a king's ransom (several high picks) to snag him. Just don't see them paying that price for a one-year fix, unless they see Manning's injury as potentially long-term/career-ending. Ultimately, there's still a lot of offensive talent on the team and a caretaker like Collins should be sufficient.

Collins is the guy. He knows the teams in the AFC South and will stay calm, even being pressured. Painter never has stayed calm with pressure. They paid Collins well to come in, but I'm not sure they expected to use him more than a few games. Can he hold up? I don't know.

They go with Collins unless he absolutely sucks. IF they start 0-4 or something along those lines I believe they will cut Collins and go with Painter.

They'd go with Bert Jones before they'd go to Painter full-time.

I completely disagree with them going with Collins. This team is not built for the the future. They're built to win today. They would do anything and everything they can to get an upgrade to Collins and Palmer would be that.
