September 7, 201115 yr I completely disagree with them going with Collins. This team is not built for the the future. They're built to win today. They would do anything and everything they can to get an upgrade to Collins and Palmer would be that. That's if - and HUGE "if" - they could possibly get Brown to entertain the thought and I just don't think the man is bright enought to do so. Beyond that, I can't imagine they'd mortgage their immediate future to pick up a guy who really hasn't proven himself all that effective the past few years. I think they'll see what Collins offers the first few games and unless he's a total bust or gets injured, will sit pat. Obviously just a guess.

They will not keep him through the remainder of his contract and put up with that distraction.

I think they'd even look at Garrard before Palmer.

September 7, 201115 yr I think I'd rather have Garrard in this case. Nobody is going to be able to duplicate what Manning does for their offense. Garrard at least gives you a guy that can make some plays with his feet. That could be critical for them. I'm really curious to see how bad the Colts look with someone else under center. I think Manning covered some serious flaws with his command of the field and quick decisions. I question the o-line and think they could be exposed with a guy like Collins pulling the trigger. The running game has struggled even with Manning. This could potentially be a real struggle for the Colts. And, the news about Manning is cause for some serious concern, IMO.

September 7, 201115 yr WDNE-AM in Indianapolis is reporting that Colts QB Peyton Manning has undergone another surgical procedure on his neck and is in danger of missing the season. This is the second radio report from Indianapolis in less than a week that has suggested that Manning will not play in 2011. That is from http://www.cbssportsline.com
September 7, 201115 yr Wow. Could be true, shocking if it is. That's the reality of spinal surgery though, whether its neck or back. Anytime you start messing with that stuff your taking a risk of never being the same again, even if you are trying to fix something that is fixable through surgery. Definitely has the possibility of being true. Crazy thing is if (as much as I hate to say it out of personal dislike of Manning) hes done for the year the Colts are going to be in position to get an eventual replacement in Andrew Luck. Without Manning theres no way I see them being a playoff team, I could honestly see the battling it out for a top five draft selection. Again, don't like Manning at all but the truths the truth, he is that team and he is so good at making it happen and running an offense that without him they are going to be just your below average NFL team. Once Harrison, Clark and Wayne started to get some age (particularly Harrison) I figured Peyton would decline. I thought after losing the Edge in the run game, Peyton would decline. But, no matter who you throw into the backfield, or no matter who you spread out wide, Peyton moves the ball down the field. You lose Harrison, no big deal here I'll throw to these new guys. Dallas Clark goes down during the middle of the season, its okay, I'll turn to a young Jacob Tamme and get almost just as much production. Go ahead, put somebody new in the backfield, don't matter. I just can't see Kerry Collins doing that.
