Nope the only content I got out of your posts is that I must be dumb to challange your vast knowledge of the game. If thats where you stand, I can't argue with someone who can't accept people might have a different opinion than them.

Your not going to find many people who played even in the late 70's who think on average talent has not increased drasticaly since the 1960's.

No Blake Hubbs?

IMHO, all 3 Forwards had better all-around games than Derek.

Smith was better as a sophomore than two of the three you listed were as seniors. Jennings and Smith are two of the best the region has ever produced.

1. Does winning Mr. Basketball automatically put you on the "all-time" best list or the the "last 25 yrs best list"? I see people putting Ross Neltner on their list, but I'm not so sure. I talked with someone the other night who thought another former Highlands center(big Bob Cowie) would own young Neltner.]

Funny stuff. :D I'd guess that Ross would have had a field day on Cowie.

Both started three years for Highlands. Both went to the Sweet 16. Both were listed in the 6-8 range in high school. One had pretty many D-I offers, and received high level D-I interest. Did the other even play college basketball?

Lots of similarities in the chances they had, one guy seems to have done a lot better with them than the other.

Bobbie had a really bad back from a swimming accident when he was younger..That pretty much hampered him from playing in college on a high level..I'd say both Ross and Bobbie would of been a pretty even matchup in high school... :thumb: :thumb:

BigStud, post by post I am amazed at how very little that you may actual know about anything at all about basketball and athletics in general.

I have never responded to anything on any subject that you have ever posted on, but I have read many many of your posts on various subjects in many various threads.Based on what I have read in the past, I will bet that if anyone said the world was round you would argue till the end of time that it is flat, just for the sake of an arguement.

You really dont have a clue as to anything that you are talking about regarding anything at all that has been posted in this thread. The more intellegent and scientific you want your posts to sound, the more and more you are embarrassing yourself to us that know better.

 Ouch!! Taking on the bigstud..Be careful he has an entire "Community" behind him or so he thinks. ;):D In bigstuds defense he does know a thing or two about St Augustine, feeder schools and what players are shuffling back and forth between Holmes and HC. :ylsuper:

I'd love to hear your mind blowing resume outside of being a couch coach?

If you had to do your list again, could you slide any of theses guys in? If yes, I'd like to see your new list.

Bo Roaden Corbin

Aaron Cash Rock

Russell Corum Clay

I remember some classic battles between Phill Cox and Russell Corum.

Big Stud...I want to be kind because it is Christmas. I think it is a phenomena that the players in the 9th region who played so very long ago were better than today's players. I don't believe that is true everywhere and in fact the reverse is true most places.

On the other hand, the game has changed less than you think. Many of those on my list went on to play for 20 more years at one place or another and the game did not pass them by. We did spend much time just shooting or playing shooting games. We did not lift and we did not play as hard as they do today and the drop off after the starters was far more dramatic back then, but we did put the ball in the basket as anyone who ever saw players like the Tieman brothers, Bob Barton who was the equal of Scott Draud or Dick Vories shoot the ball from anywhere on the floor will attest.

Your comment on McHale says far too much about you. You are too young to have seen McHale, but perfectly willing to judge him. You need to think a bit deeper before you post. I do know where you are coming from because when I was 21, I knew all there was to know about everything.

When you look back on this exchange with Equus, Firebird and me, you will be a bit embarassed, if you are as smart as I think you are.

By the way, I had lunch with Ken Shields the other day. Why don't you call him and get his opinion.

The game and the coach that I played under was just as fastpaced and hard nosed defensively as any that plays the game today. We actually played much harder help out defense than is played today. Heck, even Joe B. Hall was accused of brutalizing the game back in the 70's because of the physical way that Kentucky played. I know that weight lifting was a big part of the UK conditioning regimine back then. We played Pitino ball back in the early to mid 70's before Pitino even knew what a basketball was, and our conditioning and weight lifting regime was brutal. One of the things that made Pitino so popular was that he brought the Adolph Rupp type of game back to UK. I guess when you think about it Stud was too young to even remember when Pitino even came to Kentucky, let alone know anything about his predecessors.

BigStud just seems to think that the game was invented 5 years ago. But your right all 21 year olds think that they know everything when they have actually seen nothing of what they criticize.

The Kevin Mchale up an under is a very underutilized post move.

The funny part about your all argument is my age. I've never discredited anyone's opinion on this thread until you all decided to discredit me. My age has nothing to do with this argument.

The way players train, and the teams they play on year round just makes them better.

Kids play on 3 teams year round now. 30 years ago a kid to play year round would have to play a pick up game in the neighborhood more often than not.

What do you think makes a player better, playing against the best players his age across the state and nationwide, or a pick up game.

I'm not knocking a pickup game because I played more than my fair share growing up in covington at Glenn O, the hole, and in Lationa. But the fact of the matter is the way kids train and the amount they play today just makes them better.

Could the stars of yesterday compete today, without a doubt. Would they be as dominate in most cases probably not. But the point i'm mostly trying to make is 1-8 teams today are just better. Kids train , in the weight room, conditioning and AAU and what not non stop.

You can argue until your face is blue. The fact is I've been around this game for 17 years while that may not impress you. I have coached teams since I was 15, and part of my major in college had to do with studying the game.

I've experienced the game, I'm not some no nothing child without a background so please sir do not discredit me because I happen to be born after you. I won't discredit your experience. But your not going to change my mind. I respect you hold your time sacred and you look down on today's game. I for one just think athleticism, strength and the amount kids plays today passed the yesteryear generations up.
