Top 25 Players in the last past 25 years(1980-2005) in your region??

Featured Replies

I think Ed Hale was the best one you listed. The guy could really play......

He was AWSOME! He had an edge to him. I met him in college and he was all I thought he would be. Seems like he missed his last game because he punched out the glass in a fire extinguisher case after arguing with his girlfriend! Julson got a lot of pub and deservingly so but Eddie might have been the better High School player.

Because I think its a false statment. Its just hard for old timers to realize how much quicker the game is today. Every player on the floor is so much more athletic it makes it harder to score, defense today is so much better.

So many more schemes and the game is much more complex.

Not true, not true. People today are blinded by the dunks and three point shots. Players today may be more athletically gifted in some instances but are much less fundamentally sound.

I can't imagine a recent guard that would have an easy time bringing the ball up the court (much less scoring or giving a good entry pass) with a Dicky Beal or Bob Romes in his shorts.

Or a power forward trying to get to the basket or rebound against Dave Cowens, and Dick Vories or a Carl Foster could have scored on anybody that played recently.

I also can't imagine that the players from years ago would have any trouble learning these "complex" schemes of today.

Good point equus. If anything today's game is more freestyle than schemes.

Simon Kenton missed the thread title by a year, just like Doug Schloemer missed it by two years. How am I being petty and your not?

I'd like to know how you figure that one, this is there first year in the 8'th and doesn't the title say the past 25 years? Not the the past 24 years and the current season as well.... :sssh:

I'm sure all the Division I players the 9th region has had since the 90's would disagree with you.

His list was from prior to 1980,thus, Dicky would not be on it.

Interesting that the 9th regions 1st ever Mr. Basketball was not included, though.

#1 in the state #3 in the region. :D

That was a bit before my time, but it sounds a lot like the 9th's 2nd & most recent Mr. Basketball, doesn't it? ;)

Oops, that's the one I was referring too, forgot Schloemer was the first.

Think about that Stud.

That would mean in the year 2020 all those D 1 players in the 9th region in the 90s wouldn't be able to stay on the court with the 9th region 2010-2020 team.

Because by 2020 players will be bigger, stronger, faster. Those 1990s players wouldn't stand a chance now would they.

You are comparing D1 players that have recently gone to Wright State etc. with D1 players from the earlier years that played at UK, UC and Florida State? I'd take my chances with some of the older guys.

Not the same. There has not been a dramtic difference in athletic ability and speed as there was from the 50's and 60's to the 80's and 90's. I would say on the most part the 80's and today players are similar in that stance. Has not been a dramatic difference. But if your going to dare tell me the speed of the game is not so much different over the last 40 years I'm shocked.

Ross Neltner -LSU

Justin Doelman- Xavier

Joe Harney-WKU (after they had been to sweet 16 a couple times in recent history)

Your going to have a hard time convincing me those players I just listed don't stack up with the rest of the greats from this area.
