McCoy is a starting receiver on the varsity team and the backup quarterback for the varsity team. There is absolutely no way that he is going to play on the JV team. It's best to provide Houliston with all the JV experience he can get. I'm sure the coaching staff would be happy if he developed enough so that McCoy and Houliston were varsity offensive starters together next season.

Agreed, if anything get McCoy some varsity snaps every chance you can. I think that will be the case as Highlands runs the NKY table.

McCoy is the 4th best QB in NKY behind Towles, Pike, Hightchew who doesn't even play the position. next year will be his year, the kid can run forever and slings it well for a lefty.

Don't think he did, McCoy is really, really good. Teams found that out last year when Patrick got banged up some.

OK. Interesting. We can debate QB's in another thread but I will say, I saw Blake Bir making throws last night that I haven't seen out of any of the QB's already mentioned. That is likely due to what CCH is doing offensively, but he is throwing some quick timing patterns to receivers in a pro style where the ball is thrown before the receiver makes his break and he was hitting the receivers on the numbers. It was very impressive for a high school QB / receiver combo to exact it as well as they did. I'll get a better look at Bir when Beechwood plays CCH but his execution last night was D1 level IMO.

I'm not sure this has any bearing on just how good McCoy may be.

 

In 96 Highlands won state with a sophomore QB as their backup, he went on to UK and set several SEC and school passing records. In 98, when Highlands won state, they had another sophomore quarterback as their backup. He went on to UC where he set several school passing records as well. Anybody think because those two were backups, they weren't among the best in NKY while they waited their turn?

 

Point being, log jams can happen. I don't know how good McCoy is, but he is backing up a UK signee. He could be great, and he still wouldn't be behind center this year.

Mccoy came into a game last year when Towles went down and single handedly owned it. I believe it was the Dixie playoff game if I'm not mistaken. He had a tongue of moxy in that game and showed why he needed to be on the field this yr in some capacity.

McCoy has thrown varsity passes including TDs last year and as Qryche pointed out last year was a key QB contributor coming in when Towles was hurt in the third quarter to key a long drive in the Dixie playoff victory as well as QBing some in I believe all of their playoff games. He also outplayed IMO Bir head to head in two freshman game Bird wins between the two teams. He also threw more TDs in 9 JV games last year than Highlands threw in 15 varsity games. I agree Mccoy likely is the 4th best QB in NKY. Just happens to be playing behind a Top 20 in the nation DI QB this year. Nice luxury to have as a backup QB. He also will be one of the best WRs in NKY this year. Looked great in the opener against Boyle including a long TD catch and run right before the half.

Trinity is a class program & is on top of the Ky HS Football Mountain right now. The Rocks handled the Highlands frosh and JV handily. No need for the young birds to hang their heads though as the loss to Trinity will only help them down the road.

Although the topic for another thread, Bir is very talented and may well be able to play D-1 in college. The only drawback may be his size. How big is he?
