Walton Verona Being Sued By Parents of 13 Year Old Girl

I'm torn. I don't think an allegation by itself is enough.

I'd wait until the police actually made a charge.

At the same time you can do your own investigation and make a judgment. Schools do that ALL the time.

What if the allegation had to do with trafficking drugs? What if the individual was suspected in a some type of crime (assault, robbery, etc..) that involved the use of a firearm?

Beyond this issue, however - and a case could be made either way - why instruct your players to keep the matter a secret from their parents? If that's true - and, of course, it's only an "if" at this point - I think it says a lot about how serious he felt the allegation was. And certainly speaks to the integrity of someone who would take this kind of action so that he could insure one of his better players was able to play in a tournament.

And we've both known schools to make bad judgments and try to brush it under the rug.

Thus, the "I'm torn" comment.

Wow, just read the thread from start to finish. This is a really sad situation where it seems many have tried to sweep it under the rug as an adolescent mistake. Unfortunately Vance was 18 at the time of the admitted misconduct. I feel for both parties but mostly for the victim obviously as I have two daughters myself.

Some of the cover up stuff, if true, by the administrators and coaching staff at WV, makes me want to puke. If Dan Trame sold out the integrity of his name by issuing a gag order so he could get 18 pts a game in Orlando then he should be ashamed.

Not to beat on NCC here but if you think they were in the dark about the Sullivan situation then you are smoking the drapes. Sullivan certainly rounded out that pitching rotation and provided a nice bat for those 9th Region champs didn't he? Why didn't he choose Newport where is Grandpa is an Administrator? I was born at night but I wasn't born last night. This stuff just takes away from the purity of HS sports when you see it happening.

You have your choice AMC Pacer or a Vette. Choose, but choose wisely.

For those of us that are parents, is there anyone here that would not have "visited" Mr. Sullivan and his deviant son in person? Not saying it would necessarily be the right thing to do, but at least for me I think some level of rational thinking goes out the window and rage/frustration takes over if someone does this to my 13-year daughter.

I am glad someone has the right idea! I mean 18 to 13 is sickening, anyone who thinks different is someone who has very low morals IMO. Sounds like being a stud at sports didn't do much for the girls his age. I am not bashing him in saying that, but what else could be the reason for this behavior?

As a parent would we not all help our child t he best we can? I think Dan Jr. was in a tough situation trying to balance school administrator and father. Not an enviable place to be.

No, I didn't miss those posts by you. As the moderator/originator, I feel as though you would have taken a more neutral side on this topic. Of course, I realize what sells memberships for this website. I do not have the time, nor the patience or the technological expertise to go back and copy all of your posts on this thread and others where it seems to me that you've been more than one sided. Let's just say that we'll agree to disagree on your stance.

I certainly do not agree with what has happpened. I think it has been terrible - for both parties. There has been a lot of lives that have been turned upside down. My simple point is this - the lawsuit is someone's opinion on what happened, it is up to the court to decide whether or not that opinion is something that can be validated or not.

I do know the Sullivan family and they are good people. Obviously, there are going to be some people on here that have different opinions. I'm okay with that but rushing to judgement and making decisions about giving schools the "death penalty" without hearing both sides is ludicrious.

You have to be kidding. G wouldn't try to stir the pot with this just so he might get some new members at BGP. The reputation of BGP is what sells memberships.

:sssh:

Wow! Well said. I had not heard that about his Grandpa.

Very nice post, sharing a lot of my sentiments. Sounds like weakside needs to go somewhere ELSE to get friends. I hope the parents of this young lady own "poor little WV".

I'm sure you do but I don't think they will own "poor little WV". Let's just see how it shakes out.

Let's hope not. The good kids at Walton-Verona shouldn't have to suffer for one kid's actions.

But what about the actions of the administration in the way they handled that one kid? Should there be no consequences? ASSUMING and IF INDEED the allegations are true?

Perhaps, as long as it doesn't take away from the educational experience of the students.

1. NewCath was not in the dark to the situation.

2. (from my source) 2 other schools told them no.

3. The Administration at NewCath could give "2 squirts of urine" how he fit into the pitching rotation.

4. With all the schools to choose from are you kidding, Newport?
