Here is something else to think about with X. Maybe they are as good as usual but it may not matter because T could have one of their best teams of all time.

 

How good is Riverdale (TN)?

St.X beat that T team as I recall. BTW I have not been hiding I have been without a computer since the first week of May its nice to be back on board.

Why not?:jump: I would argue this Trinity team is better for two reasons: 1. James Quick and 2. Daylen Dawkins

That 84-85 Rock squad was very big, very strong, and very mean. But, as XTiger so aptly pointed out X was able to knock off the Rocks in the playoffs (20-0 I think....) largely because the X defense was able to get stops and force turnovers. That Trinity squad did not have a D1 caliber running back (no offense to Mr. Greg Lawson) or a D1 caliber receiver (no offense to Mr. George Frederick).

I want to put this discussion in another thread and stay focused on X here.

I will be pleasantly surprised if X plays T within 3 TD's. X is X, minus any semblance of a stud running back or menacing offensive line. Trinity is just off the charts good. Not since the 84 team that featured the Gardner brothers, Andy Murray and Mike Pfeiffer have they had this much talent.

I hope I am dead wrong. When you say they could "start" at Trinity, do you mean at positions other than RB? Or, are you saying X has 4 running backs backs better than Daylen Dawkins? I watched both X/T games last year and I didn't see any X running back that was better than Dawkins.

I don't know anything about Riverdale, TN but until X takes care of Bowling Green in convincing fashion I am still a little skeptical.

 

 

As folks will see, ST X will handle all in KY 6A except for Trinity. Unless Brian Buenher is back under center for the Tigers, or unless Coach Glazer loses that pride and runs the ball downhill 90% of the time and quits trying to show fancy offense, ST X will not beat Trinity this year or next year.

As for the thread topic, I say again: X is #2 and the only 6A team with any chance of beating T. And make no mistake about it, they CAN beat T. Whether or not they will remains to be seen. But if they played each other 10 times X would come away with a victory or two (or three).

Riverdale is in Murfreesboro and plays in 5A, the big public school class with an enrollment of around 2,200 students. They are often very, very good, one of the best teams in Tennessee:

 

2001 ... 15-0, state champions

2002 ... 13-2, state runner-up

2003 ... 12-3, state runner-up

2004 ... 15-0, state champions

2005 ... 13-1, beaten in state semifinals

2006 ... 11-2, beaten in state quarterfinals

2007 ... 11-1, beaten in second round

2008 ... 5-5, missed playoffs

2009 ... 11-3, beaten in state semifinals

2010 ... 9-4, beaten in state quarterfinals

Daylen Dawkins is only ranked ahead of Brandon Moore in the class of '13, because of who his dad and uncle is. La'mondray Clemons would give him a challenge, as well as Charles Walker. All these players fly under the radar due to playing behind Lamont Mcmurry

Obviously X has plenty of players that would start at T... heck they had plenty that would start at T LAST year (Beatty would have LOVED to have had John Allen). But it will take a LOT of convincing on the last Friday of September to make any argument that X has any back better than Dawkins. If they do (better yet if they have 2 or 3 or 4!) then I guess the T/X game will be a toss-up. Daylen is every bit as quiet, polite and reserved as Derek Bishop was before him, and I am predicting that he will have every bit as much success.

Well to clarify, X has 3 backs that could go to Trinity and start over Daylen Dawkins, all underclassmen. You'll didn't see much of them b/c of the Stud, Lamont McMurry, but these 3 backs are far more discplined then he was, and as far as quarterback goes: Yes there is a mold of Buenher under Center. He's faster, better playmaking ability, but undersized. But no question X's backfield is loaded
