Offensively they will lack that big power back that has Glaser has always hung his hat (and his entire offense) on. They started and played a bunch of 15 year old Sophomore to-be's against a team reported to be way better than the Tigers are at this juncture. That is a good thing, and unlike other years, this is the year that the offense will change.

 

I really do think that the tigers have more weapons on offense than they have had in the recent past, and will take advantage of more OVERALL team speed and OVERALL athleticism there. While there may not be a Deuce Finch back there, the numbers will add up.

 

Defensively, they will fly to the ball. Tigers D is fast on fast. There is not a better D End than Roesller (Just turned 16 I might add). Sermersheim is the same at Safety (Again, just turned 16) and he runs a 4.5 or better. Stone and Clyburn together are huge in the middle. With one of them blitzing every play, things will get ugle early for the opponents.

 

The may be just a tad weak in the middle on the line (Geary being the exeption as he is a big, physical kid).

 

 

No team problems, they are only growing together as a team ! I expect really great things this year. It will be fun to watch them, as I doubt you will ever see them give up.

My gosh, I've really missed a lot. My power has been out since last Saturday afternoon, and just now got restored. I love the spirit shown by these new Tiger posters, but even I would have to say that they have drank too much Kool-Aid. We did manage to look good against a rather sloppy Simon Kenton team last Friday night. However in defense of the Pioneers, neither of their star players, RB Nate Powell or LB/TE/RB Jared Bowling played in the scrimmage. Given their absence, I'm not really sure how much stock to put in the big win. But I probably would say that we need to move from #7 to #6.

 

When they talk about all the great backs we supposedly have that were held back because "the Stud", Lamont McMurray was at TB, they need to remember the big 83-7 difference between T&X last season when Derek Bishop was running ruffshod over us while Lamont was being held in check. How then can backs who couldn't surpass McMurray be an improvement?

 

Both the two juniors and the two sophomores that are now primed to run for the Tigers are "good high school backs", but they are no where near the caliper of a "bellweather back" we normally have like a Lamont or Deuce Finch. In regards to Mattingly at QB, he did look very sharp throwing the ball to Wempe. The big thing though is we must find a way to keep him healthy for the season. He has had a lot of injury problems in the previous years. Plus we desparately need to develop more than one receiver for Mattingly's passes, or we are going to make it awfully easy for opposing defenses to negate our new air attack.

 

Moving forward, the BIG POSITIVE THING shown by the Tigers last Friday was how well they operated with an entirely new 4-2-5 defense with people flying to the ball and a pistol spread offense which stretched the length and breadth of the field. We actually threw some deep post patterns....unreal. These changes seem to have brought a whole new level of enthusiasm amongst both the coaches and the players. I know Simon Kenton was totally surprised! :ylsuper:

 

Teddy Roosevelt always advised, "Walk softly and carry a big stick", not "Talk loudly while carrying a toothpick." We need to accept our baby steps and go one game at a time. Our true strengths this season are T-E-A-M, numbers, discipline, and tradition.

 

X does have a big back that can pound the rock. Antonio Sloan, Fb, 5'7 205 played Fb behind Devontae Beach. He's a powerful runner and won't be brought down by 1 defender. he squats over 465 and he really shows his leg power. To address the Lamont situation, the other backs saw limited time b/c of the special treatment Lamont was given. No ? they could've have stepped in and been more productive. Brandon Moore came back to practice this week and his rehab really paid off, he has a quicker first step and some new moves:thumb:

they didn't line up against that stunt in practice. in the game was the 1st time they saw it. but irrelevant b/c X won by 7 scores

simon Kenton blitzed practically every play and runs some gimmick "everybody stand up and fake blitz routine" sort of like an old musical...ala Southen Mississippi/Memphis and all those other "power" programs. Quite frankly, the X line did a great job once they figured it out. 35-Zip... does not take a rocket scientist to understand the final outcome I personally saw every down and feel the line, while slightly undersized at times, plays pretty nasty...
