The point of a scrimmage is to make yourself better for the regular season. If Highlands has the opportunity to scrimmage Trinity every year, they should do it. What good would it do them to crush somebody in a scrimmage. That shows you nothing. And if I'm Trinity, I want to scrimmage the birds every year. Chances are, they will provide much better competition than anyone else in the state year in and year out.

If your beating someone by 5 touchdowns in a scrimmage, all it does it give you a false sense of security. I say play Trinity every year and make yourself better!

With most schools I agree but Highlands is a Bird of a different color.

I would certainly consider finding a more winnable scrimmage year in and year out. Again, Highlands does things a little different (and they are the best at what they do) and given that difference I think getting pounded is counter-productive.

 

I don't know Rue, maybe Mueller might be thinking HHS has been sooo successful for sooo long he sees a little complacency. Maybe he wants extremely hungry Birds when they show up for real next week. I could be just crazy or maybe Mueller is crazy.....crazy like a fox.

Seriously.... Trinity was definitely the better team. My point was, that if 3 key offensive starters are missing, it is going to affect your performance as a team. And like I said, it gives your backups valuable experience against one of the premier programs in the state. Something they wouldn't get playing inferior competition.

. This guy should be on comedy central.....doesn't he know they used up their H.S. Eligibility

A "loss" in a scrimmage won't mean squat if Highlands goes 15-0 and wins their 21st title. I don't think it's in their DNA to run away from a challenge. If anything their kids know they are beatable and that could make them even hungrier.

I hope it continues! Highlands got a lot out of that game last night and will be much better for it. They will not see anything remotely close to that all year.

Realistically there are a handful of teams that can give the Birds a legit scrimmage. Trinity is one of them with this season shaping up to be a special one.
