He contract is pretty affordable as well....

# 11:$2.8M, 12:$4.2M, 13:$5.75M club option ($1M buyout), 14:$8M club option ($1M buyout)

# 2014 option only if 2013 option is exercised (may void 2014 if traded)

# 2013 option increases to:

* $6.75M with 2012 Cy Young

* $6.25M with 2nd or 3rd place in 2013 Cy Young vote

# 2014 option increases to:

* $9M with 2013 Cy Young or 450 IP in 2012-13

* $8.5M with 2nd or 3rd place in 2013 Cy Young vote

# if traded, Jimenez may void 2014

# performance bonuses: $50,000 each for 200, 210, 220, 230, 240 IP

I saw something about JJ Hardy for Alonso.

Sold. Lets get that one done, but he probably makes to much money.

I'd have to take a chance. At his best he's better than most of the pitchers on the Reds staff. He hasn't been good this year, but he has some nasty stuff. I see it as a High Reward/Low Risk deal.

I wouldn't say that because they likely will have to give up a lot to get him.

Teams aren't in the business of just handing over potential aces...

No kidding ...

It's not happening ... I doubt the Orioles would give it a second glance. They're talking to Hardy about a new contract.

Let's give Cozart a chance. I think he is the real deal.

agreed...why trade Alonso when you potentially have a JJ Hardy type in Cozart...

Would it not be worth it to try? The Reds need an ace, and this is about as close as they can get (potential-wise) for a price they can afford. Alonso, plus a young pitcher or two wouldn't be worth a try?

What exactly makes Cozart a "J.J. Hardy type" shortstop?

Why would the Rocks trade Jimenez with that contract in place?

Yes and no. If they only have to give up one of their young pitchers and maybe Alonso then fine. However giving up two, I think would be to much of a risk that could very easily fail as much as he could end up doing great. Giving up like a Homer Bailer, and Alonso would be worth the risk though IMO.
