A very entertaining and exciting game. First, as best I could tell no one was injured. Second, the kids seemed to have fun.

 

This wasn't the Highlands vs SK game that some, okay just one, predicted. Kids from Highlands & SK participated and played very well, especially on defense. This was truly a NKY all star game. RB's from Brossart & Ryle had great games. Zumdick from Dixie & Baldwin from SK played great at LB. Ritter, Sidel, Odom, Gregory, and all the East DB's did a great job. Both offensive lines did great. Wienel had a couple of really good punts and KO's (It seemed like the East struggled a bit holding the ball for a left footed kicker, but that is tough to master in so few practices). Imagine Kremer, Connelly, and Leonard on the same team. They might be good enough to make the SK squad.

 

The most moving part of the game was the half time presentation to the families of the two young men who gave their lives so we could argue about HS football. Outstanding stories of two men who learned to lead and follow on the football fields of NKY and used those skills to defend us. God Bless them and their families. Scout is eternally grateful for their sacrifice. I will never forget their stories.

...oh and how I wish Arlinghaus had gone to CovCath!! Very gutsy game by Jerry who was put into very difficult positions.

Well when Highlands is the coaching staff then these types of things become odd. LOL.

Hey Dale was looking for the WIN in the rubber match and he was determined to get it and he got it all all expenses. PERIOD.

Sorry if there is a kid more deserving that maybe should have been there, but you will never convince Dale Mueller that another kid in NKY is more deserving than one of his kids and when he is driving the bus then again it becomes odd if you are being so naieve (sp) to think any coach wouldnt do the same.

 

Kremer of Campbell Co and Connelley of CovCath were the keys to the win. Switch those 2 players and the outcome is reversed. Nothing to do with Dale's coaching or Highlands "superiority" - sorry if I ruffled any feathers but this is the truth of what I saw.

RB's from Brossart & Ryle had great games. .

 

Daudistel (Bellevue, center) left the game in the first half with a knee injury. He did not dress after halftime.

The Brossart running back was Andrew Guidugli. He is a little guy. He was able to hide behind some blockers and make some really nice cuts.

 

As to why Dale had so many Bluebirds--when teams dont sent their allotment of players (Dayton for example sent 1 out of a possible 5), that left extra slots. I guess the easiest way was to fill with people he knew.

I was very impressed by the athletes on both sides last night. It amazes me that more of those young men are not playing at least at D1 aa (FBS whatever) or MAC type D1 schools. From the west Mullen was down right impressive running, receiving and blocking. Is he playing at the next level? I was impressed with him during the year and last night confirmed the type of player he is. Dvontae Bradley is a steal for TMC! That kid can flat out run the football!

 

Baldwin is as advertised he is the real deal, I predict an outstanding college career for that youngman.

 

Jerry Arlinghaus had a rough night statistically, but he embodies what HS football is all about. He plays hard and is gutsy, and fights till the end.

 

For the East as someone else stated Connelly and Leonard were very impressive. Connelly is a very special football player, he runs great routes and makes plays on the ball when it is in the air. He has the makings of a NAIA all american at Georgetown. I am not familiar with who Georgetown has at WR, but my gut tells me that Connelly will be in the line up by mid-season. I felt bad for Josh Jasper, who I think will have a nice career at TMC, but he had to play against both Connelly and Leonard old teammates with NKYFL Raiders. He played hard, but was a little over matched last night.

 

Paul Ritter had an outstanding game for the East, and with no disrespect to Mr.Oden, I thought Paul should have received the DB award for the east. I'll admit I am a bit biased in my view, but Paul had two picks and was all over the field making tackles. Seidel, Huddleston and Lofeland from Highlands

all showed why they have four rings on their fingers. They emody the Highlands defensive philosphy, the play fast, hit hard and are always around the football.

 

Congratulations to all the players who played last night, and to the entire class of 2011 NKY Football players. It has been an absolute joy watching you play these past few years. Remember as you get older your HS exploits will improve, your wins will have increased and the ref's will be responsible for most of the games lost!

Or the keys to the win were the blocking that allowed Kremer to complete the passes; or the 6 interceptions made by the East; or the tackling by the East; or the play calling, etc. You didn't ruffle my feathers; you may have exposed something concerning yourself however.

Also, Huddleston has been working out w/ Aaron Wiefring at WieFit. He is in incredible shape. I can't see how he doesn't compete athletically at Valpo.

And, I have a confession to make. I really like Coach Mueller (there go my chances of being invited to join the Blue Mafia). Coach Mueller's comments in the Enquirer this morning were very gracious. I'm sure they were much appreciated by the players and their families.

Great post kyvince.:thumb: Hahn, Weigand and Nienaber did a very good job blocking (Nienaber also played some middle LBer). I felt somewhat sorry for the O linemen on the East squad that had primarily zoned blocked their entire high school careeers. I was told that they had to pick up an abbreviated version of Highlands' man blocking system, and with only a short time to practice, I'm sure that was difficult for them.

 

Huddleston sure had a lot of tackles and came up with a very acrobatic interception. Well done Billy; actually well done everyone.

Very classy and nice of you to make that comment about Dale. He really is one of the most mis-understood persons I know (well, mis-understood outside Ft. Thomas). A lot of people think he is way over the top and cocky because some of his comments (the "most athletic team ever", etc). Regardless of whether he believes what he says, he gets his players to believe what he says, and rule No. 1 of leadership is that your players, troops, etc can't accomplish what they don't believe they can accomplish.

 

My son really enjoyed being coached by Coach Deaton last year in this game and my guess is that a lot of the players on the East squad really enjoyed playing for Dale in this game.

My apologies to the o-lineman on both sides. I end up being the Joe-bag-of-doughnuts fan, and simply watch the ball in games that I watch for pleasure. As a result I miss the boys in the trenches do their thing. I will say I was impressed with the running game for the west, both Bradley and Mullins had some very nice holes to run behind. For the east on Slaybaugh's TD, I don't think he was touched. The Guidugli kid from Brossart also so had a couple carries where he didn't see a white jersey until he was a good 5 yards down field.

When you are on his side of the field, you love him. When you are looking across the field at him, he irritates the _____ out of you. And I mean that as the highest of compliments.

I can't say I've ever been irritated from the other side of the field. I can only think of once or twice where one might question him on calls during a blowout game but that happens to a lot of coaches.
