Now back to the topic:

 

1. based on what I saw during Spring Ball, the defense should be truly outstanding. Mark my words: if Devon Bruns isn't double teamed, he is going to be in the backfield a ton. The kid is considerably faster, stronger and quicker than last. Houston looked very good also. If Bruns is double teamed, expect the LBing corps to be making a lot of tackles. Very, very talented LBing corps. Who knows how the defense will perform, but at this point in time, in my opinion there are the fewest number of question marks on the defense that I can ever recall. Coach Weinrich has to be giddy.

 

2. on offense, we all know about Towles and Sheehan. Outstanding passing combo. At RB, this is the year that True has been waiting for. It's put up or shut up time for him. I am confident he'll put up. Siedl, Harris and others will push him for carries. O line has the question marks it does almost every year. Robinson and Trapp return. Both looked like they've leaned up and improved their quickness. Coach Turner always does a great job with the line so I'm pretty confident we'll be more than just okay there. Turner has a lot of talent to work with. McGurn returns as a part time starter of last year at TE. He's gotten bigger. TE should not be a problem. I assume the younger True will also continue to play TE. Big kid that should really help with TE blocking needs. A lot of help for Sheehan at the other receiver positions. McCoy has to be on the field somewhere, even as the back up QB. Christian, Turner and Collinsworth will also be on the field a lot at the WR spots. Tons of speed and heighth in that group.

 

3. And other than Harris, I haven't even mentioned any of the extremely talented sophomores. You just know that in the two platoon system, a lot of those kids are going to see the field and get the opportunity to show their talents.

 

It's going to be another fun year to be a Birds fan I thing. We'll have a lot of strong competition in 4A, but I think the Birds will be up for the challenge.

Highlands is good but to play 8 games in one month is a bit much! LOL!

Hayes has been playing RB and Hergott WR so far this Summer. I think Wrobleski also has been at RB but I am not sure if he is there or at LB. Good question because all 3 are good players capable of playing on either side of the ball.

I know Hayes has been playing RB with the varsity, but watching him last year, he seemed more suited for defense. When running the ball, he was incredible in open space (kick returns, sweeps), but in traffic seemed to go down fairly easy. On defense, he was brutal - hitting guys and cleaning their clocks. His defensive attitude was "take no prisoners." If he could capture some of that "punishing" attitude with the ball in his hands, he would be better served as a running back.

Games I am looking forward to are Dixie, Boyle, CovCath, Elder and Ryle.

 

Not Trinity??? Oh yeah, just a scrimmage.

What about the young Waldenmeyer boy? Heard he was the JV running backs favotite lineman. Looks like his diligence in the weight room has paid off...looked about 6'3/270 ?? Will he see the field this year on Fridays?
