June 7, 201115 yr TULSA, Okla. -- Bob Knight criticized the NCAA and called the rule Ohio State football players broke when they sold and traded their personal memorabilia "idiotic." The former Indiana and Texas Tech basketball coach, and an Ohio State alum, spoke to reporters Monday night before the Henry P. Iba Citizen Athlete Awards ceremony, where he was scheduled to deliver the keynote address. http://sports.espn.go.com/ncaa/news/story?id=6633220&campaign=rss&source=NCFHeadlines
June 7, 201115 yr Author Would Bobby Knight have said the same thing if it had been "Kentucky basketball players" instead of "Ohio State football players"? It would have probably been the greatest rule instead of an "idiotic" rule.
June 7, 201115 yr The NCAA is definitely out of touch. I agree with him there. But, if it was UK and not OSU, then he would be commending the NCAA. There is no doubt in my mind.
June 7, 201115 yr I disagree. If they let players sell championship rings, bowl jerseys and other stuff aquired from playing for a winning program, then a program like OSU gains a huge recruiting advantage. The spin would simply be, "hey, play here, we will the Big Ten at least 3 years that you are here. Think how much you can make selling all of those rings and Rose Bowl jerseys. You won't have that luxury at Michigan."
June 7, 201115 yr I cannot believe anyone still puts much stock into anything Bobby Knight says anymore.
June 7, 201115 yr Pot and kettle? Dang, you took my line. I'm gonna do it anyway. In other news, the pot has dubbed the kettle 'black'.
June 7, 201115 yr This Knight guy is so.........................yesterday. His words are irrelevant and untenable.
June 8, 201115 yr No doubt Knight doesn't have much relevance these days, but I will still listen to anything he says over Joe B. Hall. Talk about useless. A never was and never will be, yet the Big Blue nation trots him out with Denny Crum for hours of talk of days gone bye.
June 8, 201115 yr I cannot believe anyone still puts much stock into anything Bobby Knight says anymore. I like listening to Knight comments/knowledge on the actual game of basketball, x's and o's. That is where it ends, he is a pompass jerk that thnks that he is the NCAA. Knowledge of the game, yes - anything else,no.

I agree and actually agree with him on that rule along with other NCAA rules being wrong, it was their stuff. That in no way changes the fact that Tressel handled things wrong. A stupid rule but it was a rule is the bottom line. Having said that and getting back to the question I agree that Knight would have crucified the Cats if Kentucky would have been in that scenerio. Knight hates U.K. and has never gotten over the 75' regional final loss to U.K..
June 8, 201115 yr Would Bobby Knight have said the same thing if it had been "Kentucky basketball players" instead of "Ohio State football players"? It would have probably been the greatest rule instead of an "idiotic" rule. I am an OSU football fan but in no way am I defending Ohio State Players or Tressel. I am also a huge U.K. fan but I have to wonder is that if some of the many OSU haters on this site would be going easier on U.K. and Cal if it was they who had done this. I think that I may have to go with the pot meet kettle deal in that scenerio, I'm just sayin'.

A never was and never will be, yet the Big Blue nation trots him out with Denny Crum for hours of talk of days gone bye. I'm sorry but I disagree with your assessment of Hall. He was dry as dirt when coaching but he had some very successful teams with talent and without. Any coach who has the #1 team in the nation, trails by 7 at halftime in the first round of the NCAA, and chooses to bench three starters for three scrubs named Casey, Williams and Cowan has more guts than most any coach I've ever known or seen in my lifetime. :thumb: (And remember that this was when 7 points was a big lead because there was no shot clock)

Also, Joe B. Hall had and still does have the one thing that Knight never has or will have and that is class. Knight would have to have the first two letters taken off to describe him.
