May 14, 201115 yr I have missed you Patrick what is your prediction for tomorrow? Owed by Cueto and BP that had to sting a little Cards fans. I know I hate losing to Carp and seeing Molina get hits.
May 14, 201115 yr After watching Cueto pitch today I don't believe that I can ever watch Volquez pitch again. Why don't they send Gomes to the minors for a couple of weeks to try to get straightened out. Call up Frazier who is doning pretty well.
May 14, 201115 yr Another impressive win for the Reds minus the defense in the 8th. I say tomorrow is the real test. Can they beat their old nemesis Chris Carpenter. He hasn't been the same pitcher so far this year but I say he will still master the Reds.
May 15, 201115 yr 4-0 on the year for me. Great day at the ballpark. Pretty full stadium, would have been completely full without the rain.

It is interesting to me that the Reds have played two poor games in a row and yet they beat the Cards in both.

May 15, 201115 yr Yeah I was watching. Phillips doesn't exactly have the best stolen base percentage in the world, and Molina throws out nearly 60% of guys trying to steal. Rolen was swinging the bat well tonight. I see no problem with not taking a chance of taking the bat out of his hands in that situation. I don't want to belabor this but Phillips is a good baserunner and Molina does not throw out but about 40% of runners. I know that is still a very good number and a lot of that credit should go to the Cards staff ability to hold runners which the Red's staff doesn't do nearly as well. Given the situation I think he should have taken a chance but maybe Phillips wasn't getting a good read.
May 15, 201115 yr So Jay Bruce shouldn't be on the team either? Heisey did his job by hitting it to the right side. Pujols just made a head up play right there. Not many guys would do that. Imo a bench player, (and that's what Dusty feels is his best role on this team), should be ready and able to do whatever is needed and if that's a bunt he should be prepared to get it down.
May 15, 201115 yr 2-1 and 3-1 aren't exactly very good base stealing counts. Plus Yadier Molina is the best catcher in the game. I don't remember who Pujols stole off of but he stole second off the pitcher. He got a great jump. It was obvious by BP's lead in that particular situation that he wasn't comfortable trying to steal against that pitcher. I'm not sure where you heard that but 2-1 has traditionally been the "Best" time to go and you'll hear all the veteran announcers say that through the course of a game. I will give you that maybe BP wasn't comfortable but the situation called for it and the majority of the good managers in the league would run in that situation. I will say one thing that I don't like about Dusty is that he plays everything by the percentages. That's his style and I guess as long as he is the Red's manager we will have to deal with that. My feeling is that you have to adjust on the fly sometimes to help the team win games and if that means going against the odds then so be it. Just my opinion.
