Why are St. X and Trinity so good?

Featured Replies

The key word is can. Conversely, two non-Louisville teams can get there.

I'm trying to understand. Yes, of course two non-Louisville can get there. Please explain to me why you think it is fair for Louisville teams to occupy both spots. Do you know how many times in the last 30 years two non-Louisville teams have made the finals? Twice (1987 & 1996). The rationale is "if you want to win, just beat the Louisville schools". We have seen that this is not going to happen very often. It is easy to be a supporter of Louisville schools and follow this rationale. It is very difficult to be a supporter of another school and follow this rationale.

It is like putting the UK or Louisville basketball team in the MAC and telling the MAC teams, "it's no big deal, if you want to win the MAC, just beat UK/Louisville". Or better to compare the current scenario where two Louisville schools can make the finals, think if UK and Louisville were both in the MAC. How often would anyone other than UK/Louisville play for the MAC championship? But, it's OK MAC schools, you still can make the finals each year.

It is a hard, double edged sword. Louisville teams are usually playing at a much higher level than the other schools. However, even if a non-Louisville school would have a difficult time beating the Louisville school, it is good to know you still have the opportunity to make the state finals. Kids and players play football for the opportunity to play in a state championship. When Trinity and St. X can make the finals each year, there is almost no opportunity for another school to be there.

Why do you think Highlands is so good every year for being a pretty small school???????Most of the kids have played in the Fort Thomas Junior Football League since 3rd grade.......Makes a big difference.......... :thumb:

and because they take players from simon kenton also. LOL

Because the Louisville schools that got there, beat the competition in front of them fairly. If they lose, then the same can be said conversely. Louisville schools will be better for many of the same reasons that people use to decry Trinity and St. X competing in the same class...numbers and feeder systems. What can be done about that? Even if you take them out of the equation, Male and Manual have a really good shot at being in the final every year.

I have a hard time comparing the two, simply because 1) basketball and football are different and it takes different things to compete at the championship level. 2) Louisville and Kentucky CAN both make it to the NCAA championship game in the same year, and have.

Lots of things to address in this paragraph....you are still going to have the Louisville schools to contend with...at least one of them most years in the Championship, even if all the Louisville schools are in the same East or West bracket. This has been re-worked so many times, and each time, when the outcome isn't favorable to the state-at-large a new proposal is put forth to level the playing field. The issue is that there's simply no way to work it where a Louisville school doesn't have a good chance to be in the final. Even taking St. X and Trinity out of the equation...

Any school in 4A CAN make it to the finals. Just win. Simple.

If the Louisville schools are playing at a “much higher level”, are you against having the best two teams play for the title? Is it NOT fair for the best two teams to play for the title? It sounds like you want to dumb down the playoffs.

Let's say you move T and X into the west, do you really think those schools would be happy? They would never make it to the finals having to go through T, X, H, etc.

I would not have a problem going back to the old Louisville vs State at Large. I just wish folks could make up their minds.

1. Only 11 can play at a time...there is actually a penalty for 12 or more. If this point was valid then X and Trinity would be dominating basketball...they are not. X and T have not been to the finals in many, many years!

OK. If everything is equal as long as both teams have just 11 players on the field, I'll give you your St X eleven, and I'll take the eleven from the Indianapolis Colts. Should be fair.

Quite simply, basketball is not the numbers sport that football is. And Trinity hasn't done too bad on the hardwood the past few years.

We have a good coach... but that's CAN'T be the answer. :sssh:

There are 5 school in the finals, Why are they successful also? Same Reasons.

I understand your point, but it still does not address the fact that two Louisville schools can get there.

WHAT PART OF THIS DON'T PEOPLE GET.......

Any school can get there.....

YOU JUST HAVE TO WIN!!!!!!!

I'm giving up on debating how to divvy up the state. Let's just make it 12 yards in 4 tries for a Louisville 4A school to get a first down & 8 yards for the rest of the state. Or have the Louisville 4A schools play up hill & the rest of the state plays downhill.

[2) Hard Working ,2 parents involved, kids that care]

Sadly the argument that parents are involved is the downfall. Parents at the schools tend to be too involved and live their dreams through their kids pressuring them to play and taking the fun out of the sport for their child. Parents have also forgotten that the point of high school sports is to instill values in their children such as how to win and lose gracefully. Instead parents that I have seen lately have shown their children that it is alright to yell at their coaches and by doing this they are saying to their children that is alright to be disrespectful to people in authority. When did the parents start taking the fun out of the game for their children? and when did the schools start allowing such nonsence?

Please explain to me why you think it is fair for Louisville teams to occupy both spots.
Maybe, just maybe, because the two best teams are from there.

There would be a fight over how steep the hill should be.

Sorry for the confusion on the last thread. Now, what makes these private school teams like Trinity and X so good?

Why is USC,Ohio State,LSU,Michigan etc. so good? Why is UK,Duke,UNC,etc, so good in b-ball? Success breeds success! Winning programs that sustain themselves over the test of time. And the fact they are rivals only makes each school even work harder to maintain that level of excellence.

and because they take players from simon kenton also. LOL

They don't take..the kids want to win and get a good education......Wouldn't you want the best for your kid also????????? :D:D

We are talking AAAA.......
