Per Jason Frakes, Behanan, Zollo and Stenzel are all skipping the tryouts.

Pretty much if you are a D-1 recruit you have pretty much a guaranteed spot on the team. The tryouts are simply a formality and you use time to get into shape.

You really have to question the heart of Zollo and Stenzel. I think also maybe they were a little afraid of the competition. If you are Neubauer at EKU or McDonald of WKU, you have to be concerned about the competitive desire of your two recruits, in Stenzel and Zollo.

In Behanan's case, the excuse of classes to play with UL this summer is a cop out. He is just angry that he didn't get Mr. Basketball.

You don't have to be concerned about Zollo or Stenzel. They have talked to their college coaches and then made their decission. Afraid of competition....showes how little you know about these two players.

Whatever their decision was to not play may be justified in their own minds but it's still a major disappointment that those 3 aren't trying out. Behanan and Zollo don't have the true KY roots to understand the importance of the game to HS fans all over the Commonwealth. Stenzel not playing is really strange because he's the type of kid I think of when you picture a true KY representative. Oh well, best of luck to the boys trying out.

Importance of the game over the commonwealth? There might be 1,500 people show up. This game has no importance or notoriety anymore because of all the AAU and many other all star games out there. The selection process is ridiculous as well. You want kids that have signed D1 scholarships to go to a tryout? That is stupid in this day and age of AAU butt kissing.

I understand that there are 6 or more not trying out for this team. Some aren't playing because of this and others because of that. I thing there are circumstances in each case that has caused these boys to decide not to play. I think that Behanan should have been Mr Basketball in KY but Hickey did have a very impressive State Tournament. I do think the Clark Co boys would have played if things would have been handled differently . We need to know all the facts before critizing.

He did say HS fans across the commonwealth. I will be one of the 1500 in attendance and I hope to see Hickey toast Teague. I understand both sides and definitely agree that the kids not 'trying out' is one of the cons of AAU. The tryouts are all a formality though. I would think if you have a D-1 scholly that you'll make the team. It is sad that in this day and age of AAU butt kissing that kids need their butt kissed to go tryout but I guess that is the way it is now.

I just see 43 boys trying out as a joke. Picking 12 out of 43 in a 2 day period would almost be impossible. I can see some of these boys worn out with basketball ,playing a 36 game high school schedule and a 40-50 game AAU schedule each summer over the past 4-5 years. That's a lot of ball and a lot of running.

I think when this game originated AAU wasn't around. It used to be an honor to be invited to try out for the Ky team. Now I guess it is too much of a hassle. That is sad.

I think every coach in Ky should be sent a ballot and they should list 5 of the top players in the state as they see them(excluding their own) and the 12 with the most votes make up this team. Who chooses these 43 boys to start with?

Thank you PurplePride92. Regardless of AAU the kids in this state should put all of that aside and accept this as a challenge to show who has the better team.

How some get on here and judge/degrade the kids not trying out when they don't know the reasons why is beyond me. To enlighten you some about Zollo and Stenzel, both are presently taking college English and working. Both report to their colleges for summer school June 6th. Practice for the all star game would be the week they were to report to college. Hard to miss your first week of college classes as the classes are in a short time frame in summer school. This decision was not a easy one for either of them to make. They talked to their families and college coaches and decided not to try out. I respect their decision, and only wish others would too.

That's commendable and I don't blame them at all. I think it would have been a smarter move for the coach to explain that to the media rather than saying "I'm disappointed" and "they just didn't want to play." I think that's probably what caused a lot of people to view it negatively.

I'm with PP92. This is just another game to these kids. In the old days you never got to play against kids from another state so this game was a big deal. Heck, now you've got KY kids playing on the same AAU team as IN kids so what's to get excited about in a 17-yr-old mind? Sadly, this game has permanently lost its luster.

At tryouts fun watching all these great players.

Treg Setty I believe will make the team, he had looked good. One more session to go 1:30-3:30.
