The 6-foot-4, 235-pound tight end said he signed with Tennessee-Martin last week because he wants to become a meteorologist. "I want to get my meteorologist degree and it’s a great school for that," Rogers said. "Of course, anytime you get a free education it works wonders for me. And they also want me to play tight end right away."

 

Sounds like a guy whose really going to enjoy playing sports, and could be in for quite a future after it as well. Always great to hear.

 

Another link on Demling's blog said that he had some interest, and even a potential visit to UK. Anyone whose even sniffing the radar of an SEC football program is going to be quite the athlete.

 

Cory is talented in football and basketball and the classroom too, very good student. EKU's coaching staff was at several football and basketball games wanting him for football. Yes UK did show some interest late. It came down to his major in college as being a major factor on where he would go. He will do well at UT-Martin.

Thomas Armory (where pickup games are played) and he told me that Geisler reserved a halfcourt for a private workout yesterday and tomorrow Jacksonville College is coming up to do a private workout with him. I also heard that NKU has offered but wants him to make a decision within 10 days or they are pulling it. Whatever, the kid can play and Jacksonville would be a great fit for him.

Geisler is a very agile, mobile big man who can play out on the floor. 6' 7" 245. He played center for Newport Central Catholic and was the best player in N. Ky. this year. He can play facing the basket, put it on the floor, shoot the three and is an excellent shot blocker on defense. Believe me, he can play. To give you perspective, I have seen Zollo play and I would take Geisler over Zollo without even thinking twice.

He is definitely good enough to play high level D2 ball. The junior college route could be a very good option for Geisler to be seen by that D1 program looking for a winner who can contribute.

Not so sure I would take Giesler over Zollo that quickly. Not a knock on Giesler it's just that he put up his numbers in a very weak 9th Region as compared to Zollo playing a role on a much better team in a much tougher region. GRC also played against a much tougher out of region schedule. There is a reason that the 10th Region has 6 players invited to these tryouts versus the 9th having 2.

Agree, I just wasn't going to debate over a kid I hadn't seen play. Agree on all you stated about Zollo in your post, also he made all tourney team at the Beachball Classic against some of the top players on Nationally ranked teams. He also was awarded the Mr. Hustle award.

 

To my knowldege each player that was awarded the #1 player from each region gets an automic bid to try out. Cory Rogers recieved the #1 player from the 10th, so that leaves 5 others invited. As you stated, a huge # for the 10th to get invites. Would be interesting to break it down into regions and see how many each had.

OK did some research and answered my own question on how many each region had. Here is what I found with the regions having the most invited stated first.

 

7th region-8

 

10th region-6

 

11th region - 6

 

2nd region - 4

 

 

1st region -3

 

6th region - 3

 

3rd, 4th, 9th, 12th, 14th -2 each

 

5th, 8th, 13th, 15th, 16th -1 each

I agree with this. Some very talented players will be left off the team this year. Hopefully Kentucky can put together a winning combination from all that talent.

:thumb:Can a player try out that wasn't on the list?? Rowan Co has several great players that arent even mentioned. Adam Wing, Junior, Corey Hunter, aka Mountain Man, 6'7. He can certainly play defense, gave Hickey the Spalding Sandwitch dudring the state Tourney.:sssh:

Wing is a junior ... you have to be a senior to play in the all-star series.

Maybe, but there is no doubt that Zollo faced a tougher schedule overall than Geisler did.

Ryan Fucci of Tates Creek and Taylor Martin of Lexington Catholic are playing baseball and will have to decide whether to try out.

Zack Hill of Lincoln County should definitely been invited. His numbers all around were better than those invited from the 12th region. Don't know how he was overlooked!
