Boys’ all-star invitees

Featured Replies

Zack Hill of Lincoln County should definitely been invited. His numbers all around were better than those invited from the 12th region. Don't know how he was overlooked!

Zack is a great player who had a tremendous year. He should have been the Advocate Messenger Player of the Year not Co Player of the Year. I think his lack of an invite to tryout is more of a testament to how talented players in Ky are this year. I'll be shocked if Dunagan or Cinnamon(probably not even trying out) make the team and they are both tremendous players as well. Zack is indeed a great player and I wish him luck in his future endeavors.

Not so sure I would take Giesler over Zollo that quickly. Not a knock on Giesler it's just that he put up his numbers in a very weak 9th Region as compared to Zollo playing a role on a much better team in a much tougher region. GRC also played against a much tougher out of region schedule. There is a reason that the 10th Region has 6 players invited to these tryouts versus the 9th having 2.

My choice of Geisler isn't based on numbers/stats. I am basing it on watching him play and what I see in his ability first hand. There is a lot he does, especially on defensive end, that doesn't show up on a stat sheet.

And that can be said about a lot of players on this list including Zollo. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion and I have been as critical of Zollo as anyone when he first came into the area in my belief that he wasn't an SEC caliber recruit but he has been a very good player on a very good team in GRC and been a difference maker on that team. There is a reason that each player has been recruited to the level where they will end up.

I am not being critical of Zollo at all. I like Zollo. I used him as a point of comparison because Gold Sunrise was asking about Geisler and to show how much I thought of Geisler.

I'd argue they're tough to compare. Geisler is more athletic and can take the ball outside in. Zollo seems to be a traditional post-up player.

Zollo also has a nice shot and touch from the perimeter ... it's what makes him a guy that can help Western.

You've probably seen him more than I so...

I just don't picture him putting the ball on the floor from 19'9 and going to the hole.

Zollo and Stenzel turned down invites to the KY All Star Teams.

Other players were extended invites because of them turning it down.

How could you turn down an offer to represent your state?

Indiana will be heavy favorites in this one. Teague-UK, Dawson-MichState, Chandler-UCF, Zeller-IU, Davis-Xavier, just to mention a few.

I saw Zollo at the state tournament and Geisler at the All A Classic ... according to posts on here, he was battling some illness at the time. I would consider Zollo the better college prospect, but that doesn't necessarily mean he's the better high school player.

Zollo actually spends more time on the perimeter than Giesler. He has very good range on his jump shot and does a nice job shooting the three. GRC uses Rogers in the more traditional post up role.

I felt like Zollo has played out of position for the past 3 years . Rogers could only play one position and that was within 3-4 feet from the basket which placed Zollo on the high post. I think if Zollo had played the low post he would have been much more effective in scoring but there's only room for one on the low post. I thought one of the best games the Clark Co team played was against Warren Central when Zollo played the low post when Rogers went on a college visit.

I have no clue to why they turned down, but that is becoming more common now a days. Maybe injury, prom, burn out, baseball, etc.?

Has a location for the tryouts been set yet? Earlier post said TBA

I talked to Robbie at school today and he hadn't decided yet.

Question: Will Teague be playing for Indiana?

If he can play for the Indiana team, what differentiates this event from the Derby Festival Classic (which he understandably declined to play in the McDonald's All-American & Jordan Brand Classic All-Star Games)?

I'm guessing that if he is in fact eligible to play in this game, that it may somehow be sanctioned by his home state's governing body for HS athletics, but that's purely an assumption. Can anyone provide some clarification?
