Boys’ all-star invitees

It's becoming en vogue to not try out for the KY team.

Do you think kids are scared of rejection?

Personally, I wonder if some kids think it's beneath them to go through the tryout process ...

Could be or they are afraid of getting cut.....understandable to a certain degree.

IMO ,I think that some are completely burned out with ball. They maybe need a break. Personally, I think the tryout process is somewhat a joke. How can you tell that much about a boy in a two day tryout with 43 boys involved. I do think as in anything else that politics are involved in some cases. I watched these tryouts several years ago at Georgetown College and some that didn't make it were much better than some that did IMO.There could be many reasons why a kid might not want to try out but they have to make that decision on their own and I respect that decision. Why is the Ky-Ind game so much more important than the Ky-Ohio game and why don't they have tryouts for the Ky-Ohio game.

I could probably name at least 8 out of the 12 boys who will be on that team before tryouts start.

I agree, most spots are decided before it even starts. This series does not mean much anymore to most people.

See how close I get--Fant, Gaines, Kates, Kimbro, Knipp, Marks, Parker, Price, Shanklin, Taylor,Woods, Setty and Jackson. 10 of these 13 boys will be on the Ky team.

Good list, believe you are real close.

We all know that Hickey will wear the #1 jersery and dosn't have to try out. I believe I would add to your list, Remy Able, Chris Freeman. I would take off Setty and Jackson.

Two that may suprise some people are, Taylor Martin and Cory Rogers.

Martin isn't trying out because of baseball I thought.

My modified list.....

Hickey, Taylor, Fant, Abell, Woods, Gaines, Shanklin, Knipp, Rogers, Kimbro, Price and Parker.

Took off Behanan and added Ryan Taylor.

Yes I knew Hickey was automatic and meant to have Abell on there.

Too many bigs and not enough guards.

I think it's disappointing that some of the state's top players choose not to try out. Additionally, the selection process is outdated and probably should be revamped. Maybe just have a statewide vote and take the top 12 or 15 or how ever many the roster allows for. A two day tryout increases the risk of injuries and means there are going to be 30 kids who don't make it.

As for Behanan, they said he probably could have worked it out had he won Mr. Basketball. The Clark County kids simply said no thanks.

Funny, I thought I had too many guards and only 1-2 true big men. I haven't seen Taylor, Kimbro or Price play but the rest play or can play on the wing with the exception of Fant(who can post up and shoot the 3 as well and has decent handles for his size) and Rogers. Rogers may be the only true post player on my list. With Hickey, Shanklin and Abell who else do you need to run the point and all can play off the ball. If I was the coach that is the squad I would take.

If I was a coach I would add Behanan the same way Sewell was added last year after not trying out.
