It casts a negative light on all those affiliated with Newcath (unfair, I might add) and takes away from a great performance by the young men on the court.

NewCaths fans are not representing the Hill very well. I love NewCath but stupidity from adult/parent fans has to stop. We looked like a bunch of hillbillies after the CovCath and Beechwood games during the football season and now a couple incidents during basketball. We have excellent student athletes and coaches who are class acts don't embarrass the name

Not sure which game you were watching Bengal Maniac, but Newcath sat back in a zone practically the entire game.

 

As you stated, this was a 2-4 point game the entire game up until about the 3 minute mark when Newcath got a 3 to go ahead by 5.

 

Newcath was the better team and continues to have Holmes' number, plain and simple. When Hayes tied the score at 44-44, Brannen went to a stall ball method and it worked to perfection as it forced Holmes to be more aggressive and Newcath drew fouls.

 

On a side not, Newcath fans should be embarassed of the fan who made the comment about all the Holmes players looking alike when Brannen was yelling shooter. Absolutely classless and my girlfriend couldn't even believe a grown adult would stoop that low to say something like that about HIGH SCHOOL KIDS. Pathetic.

 

Congrats to Newcath on the W. Too much Hightchew and Geisler. Hightchew is one tough kid.

I guess now we can go to any athletic event, and post a thread about the most negative statement or action we see then sterotype the whole school and fan base that way. The terible statement by this person in no way represents the Newport Catholic Athletic teem, it's coaching staff, the parents, the student body, or the fan base, no more than many of the terrible statements, jestures, and actions made againt the NCC teems over the last couple years represent the teems they were playing.

The person making the statement you mention, should have been taken out behind the gym and wiped.

The statement you made on here connecting them to NCC should not have been made.

By the way did you have any scores from the NCC teem?

Tig, first off I affiliated the fan with newcath because they had on a Newcath hoodie. I never once said anything about any other NCC fans or the school as a whole. I know one bad seed doesn't represent everyone affiliated with Newcath.

 

Back to the game, Newcath won this game by playing smart fundamental basketball. Geisler and Heightchew came up with big plays when the Breds needed them.

I'm impressed the Breds played man the entire game. They are very good defensively with Hightchew, Doyle, Miller and Geisler. Beuter has also played very composed for a soph.

 

Congrats to the NCC Jv on their win also. Heard they trailed 30-14 at one point but stormed back to win 55-51.

I thought NewCath's man D did an excellent job with their help defense. Holmes was able to get it down low most of the game, but Geisler may have had 6-7 blocks. He rejected most until he got 3 fouls in the third. However, his presence was evident. There is no doubt he is the POY in the 9th. He was a little sluggish at times. He was getting winded more than I have seen him. I think he still had some lingering issues from being sick. At least that's what I read (he was not feeling well at the "All A". They are the best team in the region IMO, but they are not significantly better that the others mentioned. NCC is fundamentally sound, however, they had quite a few turnovers, but that happens against Holmes. They kept their composure, though. When Hayes has an off night and he did. He couldn't buy much until late. By that time Gray was on the bench. They have to have those guys to win. Gray played well while he was in. He had to sit most of the 4th.

Dontel Rice needs to step up and play like older cousin Greg if this Holmes team is going to make any type of run...Gray has really stepped up his game lately he is a jet that no one in this region can stay in front of, he gets from one end to the other faster than any player I've seen in a long time and when aggressive with his floater he is pretty automatic...Going into the season we heard about Hayes and Rice and that's about it, but now you throw Gray into the mix and I just don't see how Holmes keeps getting beat...Hayes needs to quit jacking up treys and be aggressive driving to the basket where he can finish or dump it off to Rice...When I watch Holmes I see a team with Three Star players in Rice, Hayes and Gray who could be unstoppable if they had any aggressiveness and I also see depth on the bench...Holmes is such a mystery to me if they would stop passing the ball around the perimeter until the other team steals the ball and actual take the ball to the basket and try to score, they could dominate either finishing at the rim or getting offensive boards and picking up fouls on the opposition...You can't use your athletic advantage that they have over everyone that they play if your just going to pass the ball around the entire possession...
