Geisler is making sure no one takes away his POY honors. Impressive. The thing about him is he is perhaps more impressive on the defensive end than he is on the offensive, and he is really good offensively so that says a lot.

Re. the FTs; was the game at NCC or Holmes (first post days "final from Holmes so I assume it was played there)? Were many of the FTs made late in the game? How many were attempted by each team?

 

Sometimes you can read a lot into made FTs; sometimes it's almost a meaningless stat.

 

Sounds like the Bulldogs need to get things together pretty quickly to make a deep tournament run.

That's why you don't depend on the "Cincinnati" Enquirer for Ky. sports information. Ky. doesn't exist to them.

I thought NewCath's man D did an excellent job with their help defense. Holmes was able to get it down low most of the game, but Geisler may have had 6-7 blocks. He rejected most until he got 3 fouls in the third. However, his presence was evident. There is no doubt he is the POY in the 9th. He was a little sluggish at times. He was getting winded more than I have seen him. I think he still had some lingering issues from being sick. At least that's what I read (he was not feeling well at the "All A". They are the best team in the region IMO, but they are not significantly better that the others mentioned. NCC is fundamentally sound, however, they had quite a few turnovers, but that happens against Holmes. They kept their composure, though. When Hayes has an off night and he did. He couldn't buy much until late. By that time Gray was on the bench. They have to have those guys to win. Gray played well while he was in. He had to sit most of the 4th.

 

I can't even begin to believe that NCC played straight man against Holmes, maybe different variations of matchup zone but not man to man. If NCC plays man Holmes gets inside really easily and gets a lot of easy buckets,

Man up whole game until going to zone coming out of a time out with about 2:00 left in game when up about 5 points. Zone seemed to confuse Holmes as they didn't get into their zone set right away and had valuable seconds tick off the clock. Thought it was a good change up coming out of a time out late in the game. Solid coaching!!

Well I guess we wait for a few more posters to determine whether NCC played man or zone based on varying observations. A lot of people think that Holmes plays man to man when they really play mostly zone. Who on NCC guarded Gray for Holmes? I would think that against a man with Geisler guarding a big and Hightchew probably guarding Hayes that Gray would be open all night. Once again I say hard to believe that NCC played man. They just aren't quick enough to do that against Holmes.

Some of the free throws were late as Holmes was fouling to get possession. The first half was even with fouls, the second half at one point had NCC with 2 and Holmes with 9. I think the officials were fine. There's always calls in every game you question, as in this game, but the refs were good in this one IMO. Geisler rejected everything. I felt Holmes was pretty passive. They just are not an aggressive team. They can leap out of the gym, but if teams are strong and box out effectively, if you have size they can't leap over you.

I have only seen Holmes play 2X this year and they played well in both of those games. Are they beginning to struggle because I would have thought that there athleticism would have prevailed. Great win by the Breds - they have some big wins in the 9th region this year.

Holmes has 3 very good players, Hayes, Gray and Rice and some good complimentary players. For them to beat the top teams they have to get good performances from all 3 of their stars. When those 3 are on their game they are hard to beat but if one has an off night they can easily be beaten by a lot of teams in the 9th.
