Yep, I know that there is much to be done before those teams are decided, but let's hear what you think. I'll give my take:

 

1. Ashland (17-4) Tomcats are 11-0 within the region. Anyone with a brain has to say that they're the favorites. They have a tough stretch starting tonight hosting Elliott Co. and some kid named Knipp. Then Mason, Rowan and West remaining.

 

2. Rowan (14-4) 9-1 in the region. Maybe the Vikings are starting to hit their stride. Hung tough with a questionable ending to lose to GRC. Beat Mason. Thacker says his defense never takes a night off, we'll see.

 

3. West Carter (14-5) 13-4 in the region, and frankly play as hard as anyone I've seen within our region. Coach Webb does a good job with this group, Rayburn is healthy, Brown is a deep threat. Wouldn't count them out by any stretch.

 

4. Elliott (10-6) 7-2 in the region, if Ison can keep the ATV upright the rest of the way, he and Knipp are enough to take anyone out along the way.

Two horse race. Rowan and Ashland.

How do the districts look, and how which draw/seed? IMO, this can make a big difference in how the regional plays out.

 

For example, in Lexington:

 

42nd : Tates Creek, Lexington Catholic, Lafayette, and LCA are in one... two quality teams will be eliminated there.

43rd: Scott County, Henry Clay, Bryan Station, Sayre.... one (or even two since Sayre beat Station and the district seeds) quality team(s) will/could be eliminated there.

 

Where it gets interesting is the fact that Madison Central should likely win their own district. Whose ever side of the bracket they draw on (and if the favorites win out, then Tates Creek:Lexington Catholic and Scott County:Henry Clay MUST be on opposite sides of the bracket) could make a VERY tough road for a team currently in the top 5 or so in the state.

 

IF Tates Creek and Lexington Catholic both advance to the district final, then one must lose, and it presents the possibility of whomever loses playing:

 

Round 1: Madison Central (assuming they win their district)

Round 2: Scott Co. / Henry Clay coming off of a lighter game against the loser of the Frankfort district

Round 3: Whomever comes out of Lexington Catholic and Henry Clay/Scott County

 

The same scenario could be presented in the 7th region.

 

 

Before I formed more of an educated guess, how do the districts in the 16th Region play out, etc.???

With Elliott Co beating Ashland at Ashland last night... the 16th region is wide open. I think it is still a 4 team race. Ashland, Rowan, West and Elliott

Eliot b by beating Ashland by 2 just might make Ashand even more of a favorite. They may focus harder vs. 16th opponets.

Before the season I also thought Greenup and Lewis could be long shots but the principal's decision took Greenup out of the equation and Lewis has not played up to their abilities.

West Carter is a Darkhorse and Lewis a long shot.

I agree with the 3 or 4 teams that everyone is mentioning but IF Lewis County can win their first game of the District and get to Morehead, who knows. They have been very close the last few years. If they keep playing, they are capable of reeling in the big one.

I would pick Rowan Co. right now. The athletes they have make them the pick IMO. My picks would be:

 

1. Rowan Co.

2. Ashland

3. Elliott Co.

4. Everyone Else
