February 5, 201115 yr I am baffled by it as well. I know JUCO is not wonderful, but you have to be somewhat decent to average what he did. Especially in that Panhandle conference that he played in. A lot of talent that has came out of there, including Casey Mitchell of West Va.
February 5, 201115 yr Harrelson is far from terrible; he has contributed a ton; a player doesn't have to be a high-flying athlete to be a good basketball player. He was terrible until this year. Before this year he had contributed nothing at all to the program. However he does at least play hard, and rebounds some this year.

February 5, 201115 yr I don't even know where to begin with Vargas. Simply put he is terrible. I say if he wants to stay in the Lexington area and be a very good player. Transfer to Georgetown college. I'm sure they need a big man. And he could average a double double. He could be a star!! Only problem is the studies may be a little tougher!!
February 5, 201115 yr Hood is 2011's version of Josh Carrier. He will likely make it through 4 yrs due to attitude and role acceptance but he will not be a factor EVER. Vargas is garbage, there is a reason Billy D got rid of him in Gainsville. I cant believe Cal inked him but with no big men I guess he had to take yesterday's garbage. Poole is a flop, how they ranked him so high in HS is beyond me.
February 5, 201115 yr You guys ripping on Poole are crazy!!!!!! If he doesn't pan out in a year or two then yeah go ahead and say something, but the kid is a freshman playing for a team that needs all five guys on the floor to be giving maximum production the whole time they are on the floor. Poole is not in a position to do that at this point in his career. There are plenty of freshman with career potential sitting on benches across the country, I mean they are freshman, not expected to contribute. Just because Cal has been bringing in NBA class guys as freshman the last couple of years doesn't mean Poole is a bust because he hasn't done anything so far. Eventually he will play solid minutes for Kentucky.

February 6, 201115 yr Agreed. Poole is actually one of the better athletes on the team. Having said that, his position is one that Cal recruits very well. If he contributes, it'll be as a junior or most likely, a senior. I'm a little surprised that Poole came back after break, I've been hearing since mid December to expect him to possibly transfer. With the class coming in it's going be difficult for him to get in much, at least that's how it looks now
February 6, 201115 yr Vargas actually played well tonight and rebounded too! 2 points, 4 rebounds in 14 minutes are pretty low standards if you are saying he played well.

Numbers don't look that impressive but just from watching the game he looked 100x better tonight. He went after the ball and had a couple nice boards that he would not have gotten earlier in the season.
