Understatement of the year - I'll take a will over the Vols... and yes, Towles has the skill set to play in the SEC.

Towles will have lots of schools to choose from. He's a smart young man with tons of QB Talent.

 

I would be very surprised to see him sign with a mediocre team or an SEC team with a .500 winning percentage ! Patrick is a winner and will want to play for a winner , no doubt about it !

Good for him. Smart kid with a vision.

 

It doesn't support those, though, that say UK doesn't recruit their back yard.

 

Lets not forget Kentucky went through a lull after going on probation. UK has kept some highly recruited kids like Sam Simpson, Aaron Boyd, Winston Guy, Andre Woodson, Micah Johnson... That is 5 in state recruits off the top of my head that UK kept away from others. Kentucky high school football is just not that talented.

Win IN the SEC; I know they'll never outright win the SEC; they upset everyone else; I'd settle for an occasional upset over Florida or Tennessee.

I would say both. Off the top of my head, I would look at yards that are located further south and west.

Highlands is drawing interest from across the country, including from Notre Dame. The Irish have been keeping tabs all year and hosted Towles, a former teammate of Austin Collinsworth, last season.

It hasn't taken the Notre Dame coaching staff long to familiarize itself with junior quarterback Patrick Towles of Highlands in Ft. Thomas, Ky.

 

Last recruiting cycle, the Irish went into Highlands late in the process and secured the commitment of athlete Austin Collinsworth, who made a freshman impact playing special teams.

 

Now they are tracking Towles, who led Highlands to a fourth consecutive state championship this season and rushed for a state record five touchdowns - all in the first half - in the title game.

 

That performance caught the attention of running backs coach Tim Hinton, who recruits Kentucky.

 

"(Hinton) said he really liked how I played in the state championship game," Towles said during registration for the U.S. Army National Combine in San Antonio last week. "I broke the record for rushing touchdowns in a half. He liked that. I guess he just liked how I had enough athleticism to play up there and how I fit into their program really well."

 

During the fall Towles got a closer look at Notre Dame when he visited South Bend for the game against Pittsburgh.

 

The 6-foot-5, 232-pound prospect had some preconceived notions of what the campus and football facilities would be like and the trip didn't disappoint.

 

"I really liked it," Towles said. "I've always been a huge Notre Dame fan since I was born. I love the tradition up there. I like how you get the college campus feel. I really fell in love with that. I loved it up there. It was great."

 

There are a few other programs that figure prominently on Towles' recruiting radar.

 

Along with Notre Dame, he also visited Kentucky during the fall and he plans to attend junior days at Georgia and Cincinnati, along with a basketball game at Louisville.

 

Cardinals head coach Charlie Strong recently extended a scholarship offer and would like to get Towles on campus in short order. Towles likes what he has seen from the program in recent months under Strong's leadership.

 

"His all-business attitude," Towles said of what stands out about Strong. "He's the main guy and what he says goes. There's really no crossing him. I just really like his attitude and his demeanor and what he's got going on down there."

 

Towles is also hearing from Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Nebraska, Northwestern, Penn State, Stanford, UCLA and Wisconsin. But at this point of the process there's not a big rush to make a verbal commitment.

 

"I'm gonna wait," Towles said. "If the right school offers tomorrow I'll commit right then, but I'm gonna take as long as I need to. I'm gonna sit down with my dad and sit down with my position coach and figure everything out."

Wonder who the "right school" is that would get him to commit immediately? Good luck to Pat! Can't wait to see him in action as a senior.
