January 16, 201115 yr Yeah and Marvin had that little deal where he was the leader of the best defense ever assembled, at least statistically, who were Super Bowl Champions. He wasn't the "D" cordinator/coach for the70's Steel Curtain or the 85' Bears. :sssh: J/K, I now what you mean.

January 16, 201115 yr Yeah and Marvin had that little deal where he was the leader of the best defense ever assembled, at least statistically, who were Super Bowl Champions. What does that have to do with Marvin as a head caoch? Fox has had some success in the playoffs as a head coach, so safe to say Fox definitely has the better resume. Also Marvin being that defensive minded coach, took 7 years before we had a good defense under him. In the NFL being a great coordinator means nothing when it comes to being a good head coach. Now I believe Marvin does a good job with what he has to deal with. However that does not change the fact that he has to be one of the worst game mangers in the NFL, and that has nothing to do with Mike Brown.
January 16, 201115 yr Yeah and Marvin had that little deal where he was the leader of the best defense ever assembled, at least statistically, who were Super Bowl Champions. Ray Lewis was the leader of that unit.
January 17, 201115 yr Ray Lewis was the leader of that unit. Marvin called that defense and is credited, by the Baltimore franchise and fanbase, as the one who built it through drafting and free agency; he is adored in Baltimore and his reputation has only grown since he left; that from a Baltimore sportswriter 2 weeks ago.
January 17, 201115 yr Marvin doesn't have what it takes to be a head coach. Show me any other coach EVER in the league that has been the boss for 8 years without one playoff win. There isn't one. The city you keep talking about-Baltimore- that just got bounced from the playoffs yesterday has a head coach that has his first gig ever as the head man and he has been to the playoffs three straight years. With a younger QB than Carson by the way. The week before when the Ravens won, Harbaugh did something Marvin has never done-win a playoff game. (Or maybe we should credit Marvin for that too, because he was there 9 years ago.) You are what your record says you are and Marvin is a playoff winless coach.

Ok. Marvin WAS a great DC for a couple of years. I'm not sure I'm getting your point.

First of all, we all know Marvin is handicapped by Mike Brown who doesn't know what he doesn't know. No one can truly judge Marvin's head coaching ability until he has full autonomy in Cincy or moves on to another franchise where he is not handicapped by its owner/gm. Marvin is also one of only a handful of coaches to win his division in 2 of the last 6 years, which one could argue is harder over the course of 16 games than winning one playoff game, especially where in one of Marvin's two games he lost his QB on the 1st play!!!!
January 17, 201115 yr Ok. Marvin WAS a great DC for a couple of years. I'm not sure I'm getting your point. The point is Marvin is given credit by the city of Baltimore and their fanbase, who know more about the situation than we do in Cincy, for the construction of that defense; no one would argue Ray Lewis isn't a great player, but football is a team game; it takes more than one player to make a unit (see Patrick Willis in SF who is seen as the best MLB in today's game!)

Well that is funny, how many so called experts and fans had such great promise for this Bengals team before this season? Was he not given full autonomy this year?

January 18, 201115 yr No coach has ever had full autonomy under Mike Brown. Very true, unfortunately.
