Congratulations to Russell. Next week's semi-final match up should be a great game. Keep taking care of business - Good luck the rest of the way.

I hate it when games come down to PAT kicks in OT. Just seems like a shame to decide a game that way. I wish you had to go for two everytime.

Anyway congrats to both teams on fine seasons. Newport had a good run and certainly showed they could play with anyone in 2A. Russell comes into a hostile situation and walks out a winner which is tough to do this time of year.

I disagree, special teams is an important part of a teams success throughout the year.

Plus I just read online from the Daily Independent saying the kid from Newport had made a school record 72 consective PATs. Plus, Russell blocked the XP for the win.

Tough loss for Newport, but I gotta say I like what I'm seeing in regards to the future of Newport Football under Coach Schlarman. :thumb:

Still in shock both teams left all they had on the field. Great game to watch. Congratulations to BOTH Teams!!!! Unbelievable swings of momentum each way and BOTH teams weathered the storm to comeback. Again Good Luck RED DEVILS and Congratulations Newport on a wonderful season!!!

Russell's radio crew is pitiful, and I'm not throwing punches...You guys in Flatwoods should look to hire Jason Suman....He's an old Tomcat and has a GREAT radio voice...

And before the Ashland contenent gets bashed I would rather have the "homer" than what I heard tonight .......Like I said tonight's game could be the WORST I've ever heard. With the plays being behind if ever called....

I hate it but you should look Suman up next year to be you radio voice because the the crew you have now has NO CLUE....

I will say that I too listened to the game on the radio. It was extremely hard trying to tell what was going on. That radio crew needs help.

i think Coach McGlone was referring to Lexington Catholic's kicker in 2000 had made 72 in a row.

Three minutes left and 80 yards to tie, the Devils made all of the big plays. What a team effort.

Now is the game we have all been waiting for.. a state semi at Russell for the first time since '84.

I gotta agree with you. The guys on the radio now for the devils are horrible. Charlie Dunlap was pretty good, especially a few years back when it was him and Brent Bailey. Need a new crew.

Great game Devils realy proud of you you never gave up and came away with the W. Also congrats to Newport on a hard game you really have nothing to be ashamed of. I was really impressed with Hesch for comming all the way up to the Russell buses searching for Coach McGlone to congratulate him. That showed great sportsmanship :thumb: Now let's go get Belfry!

Congrats on the big win! Keep on going!

Devils get due

What a great game. The teams traded haymakers in the 4th quarter.

Congratulations to the Wildcats on a great season.

Best of luck to Russell next week.

Thanks colonel-fan, I enjoyed all the articles from NKY. Schlarman is a first class act and his kids played hard and reflected his attitude. Newport is lucky to have such a fine gentleman and excellent coach leading their program.

The catch by Thomas was unbeleivable...

Great season Newport... Good luck Russell
