Congrats to all the players , well deserved !!

 

There are tons of quality football players in the state , they all can't be on the C-J AST.

 

Exactly, my guess is there are some players who don't have stats anywhere near those of some of the stat leaders, yet are every bit as good, maybe better. They may play half a game as their team blows out people or they may play in a system where they only get half the touches of someone else. Let's just congratulate those who made it.

Maybe they ran away from the lb that made All-State or doubled him and ran to the one you are pulling for?

 

I'm not really pulling foir anyone. Orca1 made a comment and Clyde replied that "productivity THIS YEAR ON THE FIELD" is what mattered. But, because I keep up with a lot of stats, I didn't feel this was necessarily the case and provided an example. It went from there. As far as the all state team goes, I view is as a combination of a popularity contest (not of players but of teams, districts, coaches, players, etc) and actual performance/ability.

 

The big problem with all state teams is almost no one is really familar enough with football across the state to make accurate comparisons between many players, especially non-skill position players.

I had seen alot of QB's this year and Mayfields Guhy was the best I seen he is a player and very smooth. I also feel NKY

got slighted again but that happens every year no respect for NKY Football. JD

Clyde my man you do talk in circles. I will try to keep this simple. The 1st team player listed as an athlete is Flo Hardin. Flo was listed under the defensive catagory. He is a very good football player. Jon Davis listed as 2nd team athlete was listed on offense. Why? If you want to compare stats, productivity and/or college potential there is no comparison. Jon would rank higher in all of the above. Defenses schemed for him. He did not have DeVonte Parker there to attrack double teams. Ask any team that Jon played against. I'm guessing that he could start and produce for any one of them. I hope that this addresses your many criteria.

Since this was a coaches poll I guess not enough of them felt the same way you do.

The Cross kid was a little higher than I think he should have been from Rowan County Some of the other backs around the state were better with more numbers.

First-My congrats to those who made it. Secondly, How many first teamers from texas, Florida, Alabama, etc. do you think have no D-1 interested, or only small regional schools, or even NAIA, etc. It tells the story of Kentucky football, and the success, or lack thereof , of UK and UL football.

Someone please explain why there is no first team QB.

I think there is always going to be a well deserved player not on the 1st team. These honors are always hard to construct. IMO, Trinity's Derek Bishop should have been 1st team over Wales from Central. Wales is a tremendous young back and I mean no disrespect to the young man. Ask anyone who had to tackle Derek this season what they think of his speed and power. He got stronger as the game went on. Ask Ryle's defense about the 100 yards Derek racked up in the fourth quarter alone. They didn't even get his height and weight right in the paper. Try 5' 7", 186 lbs. He will most likely be MVP at the State Power Lifting meet this year and a repeat Best Lifter at Nationals. GO Rocks! #21!

No he didn't he had 16 yards under Lyle during regular season, believe me we were keeping close tabs, so was the Daily Independent in Ashland Kentucky. Jude most definitely deserves the recognition for his performance during the post season, he is one heck of an athlete, but Lyle was the state's leading rusher during regular season, officially and un-officially - Official state results after 10 game - http://www.khsaa.org/football/2010/stats.htm and Jude's stats were 16 yards under that which were not made official until post season and were posted to the last Daily Indenpendent posting of all backs in Northeastern Kentucky for regular season and Lyle was ahead of him by 16 yards, just saying my son should have been recognized a little higher on the allstate list, just tough for a Greenup County kid to even be considered, call it sour grapes if you want, the numbers don't lie, Jude should most definitely be allstate but Lyle should be recognized higher than honorable mention.

I'm sure your son was an excellent player. Sometimes excellent players end up on less than excellent teams . Greenup Co. had a 4 - 6 season. Sometimes when a team isn't performing , good players can get lost.

If Jude ended up with 3300 and he got about 900 postseason, isn't that 2400? That's what confuses me. I wonder why some teams don't report.

 

I don't call it sour grapes as I would be doing the same thing in your place. I don't know what the voters go on. They may think one player is more talented even though his numbers don't match up. They may consider strength of schedule or the system a player is in. Teams that go farther obviously get more press which is probably another big factor, maybe the biggest as it's been pointed out that the voters can't see everyone and I doubt that many even go so far as to check out the stats. We had a local kid here last year who put up some huge numbers but never got any respect either.

I'd like to also say congrats to Taylor Killian (who will play college ball somewhere) for being on the Hon Men list. He is everything you could ever ask for out of a high school athlete! One of the few kids you meet that you hope your son turns out like!
