What Will the West Bring to Class 4A in 2011?

Featured Replies

It doesn't matter who is in the East or the West. It is Highlands and then everyone else is playing for second. Make no mistake though, Johnson Central will lose to Highlands and the proclaim themselves to be the second best team in 4A.

Hey....This Bird fan will NEVER take JC lightly. They have been the best test in the playoffs for a few years now and if HHS ever takes them lightly...JC will win state. I'm sure Dale and the young men under him respect JC and know to be ready. Those guys HIT and know how to play !

You do realize that both LC and CC were very young this past year. The qb from LC is the real deal..

So when is Cov Cath. going to grow up...they've been average to bad since 2008.

ACS and Lone Oak seem to be built to last, IMO. Watch out for Collins, as another poster has written.

Lone Oak was starting something like three starters on both sides of the ball ... the Purple Flash will be good next year.

Will they be Highlands or Boyle County good? Who knows?

I'll say this ... we've been hearing for the last three years how much better the east was than the west in 4A and how the "real" state championship game was being played in the semifinals, only to see the east representative end up in a fight for their lives on the turf.

I guess some things will never change, though.

If the West of 4A has proven anything, it is that nobody is built to last. In the 4 years of its existance, it has seen 3 different teams make the Final, as well as 7 different teams make the Semi's. The only team to repeat even getting to the Semi's is Lone Oak. If anything, it may be the most exciting half of the state in KY, as that it seems anybody and everybody has a shot each year.

Did you forget that Highlands, Johnson Central and CovCath were in 5A the last 4yrs.

Did we also forget how Highlands has come out there each of the last four years? Meanwhile 4A has had four years with three different representatives out of the west.

Cov Cath? They haven't had a winning season since 2006!

Play the schedule they do and see how many will have winning seasons. Each year the schedule has had Highlands, La Salle, Ryle, LexCath along with a playoff loss to either JC or Highlands. Include a few visits to Elder and one to Cardinal Mooney, and there are only a few (Highlands being one) in 4A or 5A who would have had better records. Argue if you want that CovCath isn't as good as it has been in the past, but don't use the record as the main reason.

Most schools don't play similar competition so comparing just records is a poor barometer.

True that the east will have Highlands, Boyle , Lex Cath, Johnson Central, and Cov Cath. on that side, but the west only would have to play who ever survives that brutal side of the bracket and not each team. The past 3 years have proven that they belong.

no one built to last !?!?!?! how long has Boyle, Highlands, Bell, Trinity, St X., and Johnson Central lasted with winning programs!!! GOod programs are built to last ! rethink your thinking, or am i missing your point? :)

You never cease to amaze me. We hear this from you every year how 3 or 4 teams from the west are better than JC but when it gets to the finals Highlands seems to walk thru the best the west had to represent. Yet in the Highlands/CC final thread you have yet to show your face or give your explaination on how Highlands was able to lay a goose egg on the best the west had. Your silence speaks volumes.

Whether or not JC is or isnt the 2nd best team is debateable, which is why we have such sites as these. But at the end of the day you will not hear JC saying that we were the second best team in 5A. Highlands won the game on the field fair and square and did what you expect champions to do, which is rise to the occasion. Trophies arent given out for the 2nd, 3rd, etc.. best teams, only the champion which is the way it should be. JC is doing what it has to do to be a champion.
