What Will the West Bring to Class 4A in 2011?

Featured Replies

You never cease to amaze me. We hear this from you every year how 3 or 4 teams from the west are better than JC but when it gets to the finals Highlands seems to walk thru the best the west had to represent. Yet in the Highlands/CC final thread you have yet to show your face or give your explaination on how Highlands was able to lay a goose egg on the best the west had. Your silence speaks volumes.

Whether or not JC is or isnt the 2nd best team is debateable, which is why we have such sites as these. But at the end of the day you will not hear JC saying that we were the second best team in 5A. Highlands won the game on the field fair and square and did what you expect champions to do, which is rise to the occasion. Trophies arent given out for the 2nd, 3rd, etc.. best teams, only the champion which is the way it should be. JC is doing what it has to do to be a champion.

hey...this HHS fan feels JC was the best team faced by the Birds the last couple championship runs. I suspect the players and coaches would agree. So JC has my vote for # 2, if they had beaten HHS the last two years, I have no doubt they would have been state champs !

no one built to last !?!?!?! how long has Boyle, Highlands, Bell, Trinity, St X., and Johnson Central lasted with winning programs!!! GOod programs are built to last ! rethink your thinking, or am i missing your point? :)

I'm not W.E. Raider but I think he was speaking of the West side of the 4A bracket. There has only been one repeat performer from there since the 6 class system began.

Well, actually they are..... Every single team that made at least the region finals has a trophy to show for it.

Re-read what I wrote and pay attention to the BOLD print for me.

The only team to repeat even getting to the Semi's is Lone Oak. If anything, it may be the most exciting half of the state in KY, as that it seems anybody and everybody has a shot each year.

Play the schedule they do and see how many will have winning seasons. Each year the schedule has had Highlands, La Salle, Ryle, LexCath along with a playoff loss to either JC or Highlands. Include a few visits to Elder and one to Cardinal Mooney, and there are only a few (Highlands being one) in 4A or 5A who would have had better records. Argue if you want that CovCath isn't as good as it has been in the past, but don't use the record as the main reason.

Most schools don't play similar competition so comparing just records is a poor barometer.

That has nothing to do with their lack of success in the playoffs. Yes, they have lost to VERY good teams in the regular season, but at the same time, they haven't won in the playoffs since 2006. We all know that at schools like Cov. Cath., they are measured by playoff success (that's a compliment) and they have not been successful in the playoffs since 2006. I doubt you will find many people associated with that program that will say this has been a decent run for Cov. Cath the last 4 years. The fact is, that by Cov Cath standards and expectations they have stunk. By playoff success standards, they have not been good. By stability standards, they have stunk. It has simply been a down time for Cov Cath and until they fix that (which I have no doubt that they will) the rest of the state is hardly going to view them as what they have been in seasons such as 2006. For now, they are not a contender and they would have been a four TD dog the past three years to the West representative in the Finals. So, for the Cov Cath contingent, please don’t try to tell us that they’re suddenly better than anybody on the Western half of 4A just because they might be good next year.

LO should be very dangerous next year

As long as they're at home.

To be fair, Lone Oak's only had two true road games in the playoffs in the last four years ... both were losses at Allen County. The other two postseason games away from home were for the state championship.

I think they will be much better the next couple of years..

I've been hearing that for about 4 yrs now only to see roughly the same results which equates to about 5-5, 4-6

Simply playing good teams don't mean you're a good team yourself. Win a few of those games 1st and then proclaim your greatness. Also, it's not like CC has been knocked out of the playoffs by Highlands every year and not taken there lumps from other Ky teams not named Highlands or St X. I'm not saying they are a bad team, just not near as good as some want to make them out to be. Maybe 2011 will be there year.
