Why would Highlands not be included in that conversation?? Are we counting state championships? Would that not be part of the equation?

Most people will put T & X up there which only leaves one spot to fill which means 8-10 people get there feeling hurt. Wanna rile people up quick? BG's overall team speed is better than either of those teams. If Bell or Boyle are on "that" level, i'd suggest they schedule teams that are consistently ranked in the top 10 in the state to eliminate any doubt or discussion. Beating Johnson Central doesn't convince many people.

 

Boyle has played BG before and Warren Central. 2007 & 2008. The 2007 team that lost to BG finished at or a game below .500 and was Coach Pardue's last year. The 2008 team whipped Warren Central. Rafferty's Bowl contract for those 2 years. Was working on a home and home with BG but it fell through. Next year Boyle will be playing Highlands and John Hardin for sure. Tell the BG AD to call up here and get something worked out.

 

 

I wish Boyle and Bowling Green would play. No one would love that more than me. My school(BG) vs. my wife and son's school(BC). Tell you what, beat Christian County on Friday first. Put 49 points on them. We can talk about team speed all you want after that. And Warren Central for that matter. How about we beat them too. Until then, I'll stick to my beliefs. Losing to Warren Central 2 years in a row isn't that convincing either.

Why do people think Boyle and Bell County don't have "team speed" or can handle teams with superior "team speed"? Is it because they are "county" schools? I keep hearing this "team speed" and what Boyle and Bell can't handle but the "team speed" teams never make it to the games that Boyle and Bell make it to. I thought Holmes had "team speed" and they couldn't beat West Jessamine in round 1. Just asking.......

I didn't choose the top 3. Larry labeled the top three as X, T and HL. Then Rebel countered and put Male in HL's place. That's why I said insert school here. Everyone has an opinion. Sports rankings are super objective, especially when formulas are in place to sort it out when combining classes for an "overall top 25". I agree, let some of the powerhouses schedule each other and solve it. But that kills the mystery.

I hear you. Just pointing out that we'll play anyone if possible. When we signed the contract for the Rafferty's Bowl we weren't that good in 2007 and 2008 was a state semifinalist team. We knew nothing of how either Boyle team would be when we signed the contract to play in the Rafferty's Bowl. I get tired of the schedule better teams excuse. If you go back and look at Boyle's schedules from the past 3 years you'll see teams that are traditionally ranked and good teams and some had bad seasons for whatever reason. When we were down and teams like Henry Clay, Danville and LexCath were beating us no one was saying anything about our scheduling then. Henry Clay dropped us, and Lafayette, Johnson Central, Christian County, Danville and LexCath haven't beaten a Larry French coached Boyle team. So if trading state championships with Bell County, the only team that has beaten Larry French, isn't good enough then well, there probably isn't anything I can say or do that will convince anyone. I know what I see from Boyle and Bell County and I see results from all over the state from teams connected to Boyle and Bell County that couldn't beat either team that tell me that Boyle and Bell County are top 5 teams in this state overall. I look forward to seeing how far Christian County and Johnson Central make it in the playoffs. Convincing or not........it convinces me.

I found it comical you wanted to downplay BG beating Boyle in '07 saying Boyle wasn't any good, yet wanted to chirp about Boyle beating a 3-8 WC team in 2008. You are the one that brought BG into the discussion. BG is not a top 3 team in the state. They are probably in the 10-15 range. BG has lost 2 games this season by a total of 5 points. Those losses have come to the #1 6A team and the #3 team in 5A.

The Christian/BG game is a flip of the coin game. I won't be surprised at who wins the game. I can promise that BG probably will not score 49 on Christian. But I will be shocked if Christian scores 33. Again, nobody is trying to convine you or anyone that BG is a top 3 team in the entire state.

The area I am talking about is the top three, which is classically Trinity, St. X, and Highlands.

BTW, aside from Trinity v. X, when was the last time either played HHS in the regular season? (Not scrimmage but played)

I didn't bring BG into the discussion. Someone else mentioned BG as a team that could beat Boyle. I disagreed. You then said BG had more team speed and that they could beat Boyle and that Boyle needed to schedule better teams because beating Johnson Central isn't convincing. You conveniently left out that we traveled to Christian County and shut them out last year and beat them here by 16...49-33. I find it comical that anyone can make a sound argument that BG could beat Boyle or Bell County when BG hasn't beaten a team ranked better than them since when?

 

I didn't know Warren Central's record in 2008. Seeing as how they have beaten BG the past 2 years I just assumed they were as good as they normally are in 2008. When I grew up Warren Central didn't have 3-8 teams. Makes me feel even better about their 2 game winning streak against BG. Forget I mentioned it. My apologies.

 

I also wouldn't hang your hat on the Trinity loss. It was their 4th string qb right? Freshman? Be kind of hard for me to feel too confident about beating Bell County if we play their backup qb or backup rb. Let alone the 3rd or 4th stringer. BG needs to quit being the Buffalo Bills of KY high school football. Things should be a lot easier next year though. Right?

I also find it comical that in my initial response as to how I would rank Boyle and Bell that I said I felt they were top 3 but AT THE VERY LEAST they should both be in the top 5. But I guess the top 5 is reserved for the 5A and 6A schools with strong traditions and team speed. Didn't realize that. My apologies.

I just assumed they were as good as they normally are in 2008.

The problem is you have a lot of assumptions and got defensive when someone questioned it. If you feel the need to fire little comments at BG for being a State Champion once and a state runnerup 4 times in the past 15 seasons, then go right ahead if that makes you feel better. It's not Boyle Co., but hey not everyone can be a Boyle Co.
