Does anyone know the reasoning behind Bell's Coach Hilton refusing to play Highlands.

 

I'd say the controversy and lingering hard feelings from their last meeting has a lot to do with it.

 

 

Interestingly enough, Highlands' results page from that season hasn't been updated in the last few weeks.

I have no problem with the notion that Bell County could compete with, and even beat, John Hardin and Ballard ... but "smoke" them?

Why not? I'll give you Highlands has a stronger schedule no suprise. And maybe Ryle, but not as clear cut IMO.

 

I thnk Ryle played 7 or 8 teams with winning records.

 

Boyle also played 8 teams with winning marks.

 

I'm not sure you can just easily dismiss Boyle's schedule as ridiculous or laughable.

 

I didn't say their schedule was laughable. I just said that they should be playing more high ranked teams as a program of their caliber.

Shoot, I forgot I posted in here and missed out. Thank you Rebel and Hatz for clarifying my point. Aren't Johnson Central and Christian County ranked? Those wins don't count? I generally like to wait until the season is over to properly judge a schedule.

 

Anyways, the question was asked if last year's Boyle County's team was better than this year's. Wasn't last year's Highlands team better than this year's? What difference does that make for these rankings? I love how NKY people feel like they ARE KY HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL. Whatever. I have seen every Boyle County game I have been in the country for and I will see their remaining games. I missed 4 games while I was in Japan and had to listen to the radio feed. But back to the point. You can't base what I feel the rankings should be just because you guys beat Boyle and Bell the last time you played them in what 2004 and 2007? Or because you smashed our freshman team. Now that Ryle has knocked you guys back down to earth, YES, I do feel that Boyle or Bell should be ranked higher than you. Yes, after watching Boyle and Bell both beat Johnson Central and Boyle wiped the field with Christian County(who some favor to play Highlands in THE 5A STATE TITLE GAME) yes, I will say that if that is the case then the 5A is garbage and that we have 1 class too many because this year, yes, I absolutely believe that Boyle and Bell are better than anything the 5A has to offer.

 

In my original post I also said AT THE VERY LEAST, they should be in the top 5 but my true feeling is that they should be 2 & 3.

 

See you guys next year. I hope you are healthy because I don't want any excuses at all from you high and mighty folks who act as though no one else will ever be as good as you guys. Heaven forbid someone thinks someone else is better than the semi pro NKY football powers.

It may be due to the fact that he loses 12 really good seniors and only has 6 juniors on his roster. This is a team that only dresses 46 players, not the usual 85-100 that Highlands dresses. They currently have 90 on roster. Bell County is a team that is much smaller in size and will drop to a Class 3A team in 2011. So refusing to play a team such as a Highlands may not be in the best interest of the program next season. Could they compete with them this season YES, but things in high school football tend to change from year to year.

Based on my opinion, obviously. I have seen JH and Bell in person this year and my OPINION is JH would not compete for 48 minutes against them. JH seems to be a team that capitalizes on BIG plays and Bell won't allow enough of those to lose. I am not saying they aren't a good team because they are. Stick to 5A, you have enough to worry about there and don't need to be looking down.

 

Ballard? I am just one of those guys. Never liked them. Haven't seen them play this year. Totally unqualified remark (as are most comments on here). Ballard is a decent team, just not good enough to compete with Bell this year IMO. I live 3.5 hours from Bell. I have no support of them other than to say they are the best looking team in 4A right now and one of the best all classes combined. There are matchups everyone would like to see and football, after all, is a game of matchups. I believe Bell wins 4A this year, their bracket lends a lot to that. 39-1 the past 4 years is pretty impressive. Although their playoff record in the same time frame doesn't quite line up with their regular season, this year is all that matters.

HHS will be the smallest 4A team in Ky next year. They could of actually been put in 3A..HHS has no where near 100 kids on their team.

The class system is a joke and an excuse. I have seen 2A beat 4A, 4A beat 6A, ... and so on. Being in a different class does not give you any entitlement. I am not going to get into the public/private debate. that's a whole different ball of wax.

 

You think Bell doesn't have speed and power?

 

and I agree, regular season competition shapes your season. You learn more about yourself and your team when your only challenge isn't how many points you put on the board.
