It all on the gameflow. We've all seen close games that weren't really close at all. I see a score of 35-21 in the Bell/JH game. Seems to be a close game, but when you consider Bell consistently moving the ball and scoring while JH's scores are spaced out due to a kick return, and a couple of long runs here and there. Kind of gives you the feeling that one team is superior to the other.

 

I am not trying to convert anyone to my way of thinking. Simply expressing my opinion this year on this team. "If" this game happened next year I may pick JH. Just not this year. Since it's not going to happen, we are left with a few bantering posts back and forth on the what-ifs.

There is just one problem with that scenario ... it didn't happen. It's strictly speculation on your part.

As impressive as Bell County's resume looked in 2008, much as it does now, they were hardly "smoking" the teams from the other parts of the state as they got deeper into the playoffs.

 

What makes you think they would do so now?

 

 

I wouldn't say 'smoke them' but with the exception of Trinity and Boyle County, this year, I would pick Bell County to win against any Ky high school opponent. Just my opinion.

Please find the post where I said they would smoke people in the playoffs this year? I have been on the computer a lot today and can't remember where I posted that one at. I do remember saying they would beat Boyle. I also said It would be a game I would like to see. I am not driving 4 hours to watch a team get smoked. I would drive that far for a really good game. A win is a win. especially when there is a ring involved.

Sounds exactly like the Boyle County/Christian County game.

Boyle Co schedule, I just checked, has been even better than I thought... They're opponents combined records are 77-44, with 11 of those coming at the hands of the Rebels, so, other than them, 77-33... They have defeated the #3 and #6 rated teams in 5a, the #5 and #7 teams in 2a, the #10 team in 4a and all but 2 opponents have a winning record and 2 other wins over higher class teams... A few other things to make note of... They defeated Lafayette 40-0, which is the same team that played HClay, (another highly ranked team in the Cantrell ratings), to a 7 pt game... They beat W.Jess 45-6 (who's 8-2 outside the Boyle game and a team who just ended #6 Holmes season), and won impressively over arguably the most athletic 5a team in the state, Christian Co., who's only other loss was to an out of state power.... In addition, Bell Co may not have played a challenging enough schedule to warrent a Top 5 ranking, but, if the above warrents Boyle, which is should, then consider Bell Co beat Johnson Central 42-18, a 24 point margin, whereas, Boyle defeated JC by a 36-29 score, a 7 pt margin, so, maybe they warrent it, as well. I realize comparing scores isn't the end all, be all, but, neither is who you play along the way and it is just as good an indicator as anything else we judge by...

I believe alot are putting too much emphasis on the word "SMOKED." It is a figure of speech and can hold many meanings. I agree with another pollster that said a two score game sometimes can be considered getting smoked, thrashed, manhandled, beat down, etc. All depends on the scenerio of the game and we've all seen these.

agreed. As I have stated many times already. I recognize JH big play ability and know their speed would cause issue. I just posted my opinion of how I think the game would turn out. If you don't like my kool-aid, make your own.

I think Boyle County makes a legit case for a top 3 ranking in the state. Anyone who doesn't think so is sadly mistaken. One of the many reason's is that they have longest win streak in the state. We do play football here in Boyle County, folks. Don't forget about us.

So ... we're making blanket comparisons based on one night more than two months ago, way back in the early part of the season.

week 11 '08 to week 11'10 are pretty comparable don't you think? The only thing that makes this year's Bobcats as good as the 08 is if they win the title. Who cares about better? you can't compare teams of years gone by. Again. The 08 comparison was to answer your caliber opponent question. They didn't have one in the 08 regular season, just like they haven't had one this year. That year they won the title. This year they haven't. They will be tested. They may be beat, they may not. I don't care.

If you're going to make such a bold claim, you need to be able to back it up with some sound reasoning ... and don't be surprised if/when others question it.

And a host school that finished the regular season 5-5 and bailed out the 1st round last week. Not a good comparison

and to lend credence to Cantrell's ranking didn't he have FTC listed at 4th-7th in 2A while they were going 1-5?

I know you play football in Boyle County. I just don't think you are a top three team. You need to play some competition ranked in that area before you should be considered. Although, I must applaud Boyle's coaching staff for scheduling up next season. The only reason you have the state's longest winning streak is due to Ryle breaking one that had that position two weeks ago.
